More lotion, please

Colorado is a very dry state and we try our best to keep the girls’ skin hydrated. Apparently Annabelle does not believe we are doing a very good job so she took the matter in to her own hands. Now that is a thorough job…

So proud of herself!Important to take proper care of your feet…
Making sure every inch is truly covered
Just a little bit more…
Annabelle had lotion from head to toe. Her hair was so slimy! We immediately plopped her in the tub and the water was so dirty B actually had to drain the tub and refill it to wash her hair. That was one slimy yet very well moisturized little girl!

baby lemek

Ang and I hosted a baby shower for Jess today. It was a small gathering of good friends and we had a wonderful time. While we showered Jess with baby essentials, B and Don took the kids to the zoo. Annabelle and GG were thrilled to spend the morning with their buddy Andrew. They came home filthy, exhausted, and full of dip-n-dots. All signs of a fun and successful day with Dadda.

Ang supplied the cake for the gathering and it was a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e and more importantly delicious!!
Ducks, ducks, and more ducks….The guest of honor – Jess is now 34 weeks and looks great. Let the countdown begin.Ang, Jess, Jen, and Molly
With all of us having kids now it’s rare that we can all get together so we cherish these opportunities.B’s mom joined us for the festivities too. Good times!

lemek ducks

I run with it! That should be pretty evident from the bumble bees and lady bug themes that have overtaken our home. Since Jess isn’t finding out the gender of her baby we’re going with a neutral duckie theme for her sprinkle. I got a little overzealous and made the duck gift bag and duck stationary for her. I have lots of other cute little duckie details for the baby shower this weekend. I’m looking forward to a fun time with good friends.

Trendy

I love the pink and brown trend and it looks gorgeous on my girls. I’m curious if this is the trend that my girls are going to look back and laugh “Mom, what was with the pink and brown?” Is it going to be like that avocado colored fridge? that plaid couch that everyone had in their living room? the leisure suits, shorts and cowboy boots B wore growing up? (ok, that was probably beyond the trend of the 70’s – he was quite the little innovator!) My girls are sharp dressers but I’m pretty sure my mom thought we were dressed to the nines when we were little too. Given that, years from now my girls are going to make fun of how I dressed them and did their hair. It’s inevitable. Unfortunately I’ve taken so many pictures I’ll give them lots to fuel the fire!
YaYa told me the other day that she “is over the brown and pink”. Oh no! I just ordered the girls each 3 new outfits – realizing after I hit ‘complete order they are all 3 pink and brown! I hope I can make YaYa a fan again with this sneak preview…
It’s been unseasonably cold here – we even had flurries this week! What the heck? The only good that comes from the nasty weather is that I get to doll the girls up in their new fall wardrobes. Keep an eye out for the new Meyer Fall Fashion look. Wait – I’m a perfect candidate for the show “What Not To Wear” how did I become so obsessed with their clothing???

The Coolest

Well, look what Auntie Becky has gone and done! She has fueled quite a debate and a bit of sibling rivalry in the Meyer Casa. She bought shirts for the girls that state “Big Sisters are the Coolest” and “Little Sisters are the Coolest”. Everyone knows there can’t be two “coolest” – someone has to be less cool. However will we decide???? I suppose we’ll have to have a “Cool-off” which of course, is a competition for the rightful claim of Cool. I’m working on the criteria, and although I think the girls will both excel in the oral and physical portions of the exam, I believe the written portion is going to be the biggest hurdle and quite possibly the determining factor. Let the games begin….

Once the metaphorical gloves (tshirts) are off, the girls are back to being buds. Phew! Peace has been restored at the Meyer house.

Back to School Night

We attended back to school night at Victory and the girls really enjoyed showing off their school to us. The school provided a taco bar for dinner and both girls feasted on chicken burritos. We ate dinner with Annabelle’s buddies, Bella and Drew, and their families. After dinner we visited Gwyneth’s class first. She is currently transitioning to Toddler 1 and is already right at home. We were able to meet a few of her friends and their families and we love the teachers in her class. Next stop was Annabelle’s class where we got to see lots of familiar faces and hear about all the progress she is making. Next stop – potty training! Speaking of, she asked to use the potty last night, walked in, sat down and took care of business. (Someday she’s going to be so pleased to read that I shared this information with everyone). I believe we’re on the right track but we’re not forcing it yet.

Mortons Relived

Poppy and Melissa are back in St. Louis and Melissa has shared her photos from our night out at Morton’s. As you can cleary see the girls enjoy their family time and the wonderful food!

Happy Annabelle
Serious conversation with Poppy The girls don’t play favorites, they seem to like us equally but don’t want to split up. That makes for one crowded lap, but neither B or I complain about it. GG ate salmon and Annabelle chowed on the NY Strip. That-a girl!As if a gourmet meal wasn’t enough, GG somehow made a watch off the deal?Kisses for Poppy
Our dinner crew

cathleen

Cathleen is our dear friend from Chicago and she came out to spend the weekend with us. We had a blast and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to catch up. Friday night we headed to Boulder and had dinner at Pasta Jay’s. The girls shared an ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s and we watched the pep rally cruise down Pearl Street.
After dinner, we headed back to our house and Cathleen came bearing gifts….She brought the cutest little shirt for GG and shared her bartending skills by making us carmel apple martinis. Delicious! Gus joined us for the festivities as well.
Saturday morning the girls were up bright and early so we headed to the Butterfly Pavilions and met up with the Merrill’s. After the girls took great naps we headed downtown for Oktoberfest. We met up with Gus and Consuelo and enjoyed some pickles and meat on a stick – everything is better on a stick!!
The girls looked adorable in their t-shirts. GG rocked her “Metal Kid” shirt from Cathleen and Annabelle sported a RUN DMC tee. They received lots of compliments!
Sunday we had a relaxing football day – the Saints, Broncos and Bears all won! Can’t ask for much more than that. We had a great visit with Cathleen and we miss her already!

golf caddy

GG had her follow-up appointment for the nasty ear infection that landed us in the ER two weeks ago. Dr. Brucker believes her 1st infection never truly cleared up so what we experienced two weeks ago had really been building for about a month. Poor GG. She’s one tough cookie. Dr. Brucker gave us the thumbs and ears are all clear! There is a very sweet nurse in the office that demands that she gets to help GG when we come in – the other nurses don’t even bother to get in her way. She fusses over little G and has her in stitches before the doctor comes in. It makes for a much better office visit! Our little peanut is weighing in at 23 lbs and with Annabelle at a meager 24 lbs she’s quickly closing the gap. I’ll be shocked if roles haven’t reversed by Christmas and Annabelle becomes the ‘little sister’. I’m rootin for ya, GG!

Poppy and Melissa spent the week in Breckenridge but drove down this evening to have dinner with us. Anyone who knows Poppy knows some of his favorite things are golf, his granddaughters….and Morton’s. It’s one of our fav’s too! I was very nervous about the girls sitting through such a long meal – 2.5 hours to be exact! – but they did great. I was so proud of them. It certainly doesn’t hurt that we had great food and they got lots of lovin’! Both girls ate mac and cheese while GG feasted on salmon and Annabelle went right for the NY Strip. Oh, my girls! Makes a momma proud! Poppy spent the evening persuading the girls to come up to Breck next summer and be his golf caddy! I remember doing this as a kid – my sisters and I each took a turn driving my dad around in the golf cart and I loved it! I’m excited for my girls to get their opportunity and I know they’ll love the chance to have one on one time with their Poppy. I just hope they don’t follow in Auntie Becky’s footsteps and wreck the cart!

Uncharacterically, I didn’t bring my camera so I’ll post photos when I receive them from Melissa. I did capture the leftovers from our night of gluttony. If these were the leftovers imagine how much food we actually ate…ouch, but so so good!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Having two little ones learning to master the English language provides us with an endless source of entertainment. Here are a few of my recent favorites:

– Annabelle is learning our family names. Gwyneth’s full name is pronounced in two ways; either “GG Grace” or “Guiness Grace”. Annabelle has the Grace party down pat, but it seems Gwyneth is destined to forever be our little GG or her newest nickname will be after a beer!

– If Annabelle doesn’t feel like walking and would prefer to be carried she’ll ask us to “Peese, give me a ride”. It seems we have already turned ourselves into her personal taxi to get from one room to another.

– Both Annabelle and Gwyneth refer to the big sister as “Apple”. It’s hilarious yet confusing to hear Annabelle request fruit “Apple’s banana, peese”, “Apple’s grapes, peese”. What’s tough is when one of them really just wants an Apple!

– Annabelle can say her ABC’s start to finish and sings them over and over. She has figured out the L,M,N,O,P but has created her own letter “Q,R,S,T,U,V, double S, Y and Z”.

Annabelle and Gwyneth have their own language and they babble amongst themselves. They have serious conversations that make no sense to anyone else. (I’ve heard of twins doing this.) I’m keeping my eye on them – I’m prepared for anarchy.
