happy birthday, cade

Cade’s birthday party was at Jumpin’ Jordy’s and the girls were in heaven with all the bouncy houses. I took the day off work to take them to the party. So fun to have a play date with my girls during the middle of the week. Melissa requested personalized bags and coloring books for the party favors. I made 21! They were a huge hit and even my girls were thrilled to carry their bags home. Cade is really into How To Train a Dragon so I made him a Hiccup Shirt. My girls had no clue — if it’s not princesses or fairies they can’t seem to be bothered.

Gwyneth was always on the lookout for “Cade’s Baby”. Laney was exhausted so she went for a rest in her car seat. Gwyneth went over to check on her and when she fussed, helped Melissa feed her a bottle. Gwyneth is so darn sweet with Laney!

 Happy Birthday, Cade!

bed head

My girls have great hair. Sometimes you just can’t tell in the morning.
Gwyneth has long, thick, beautiful hair. I’m really quite envious. Sometimes all that hair can get a little crazy. She woke this morning with a rockin’ 1980’s hairstyle. This girl doesn’t even need AquaNet!

valentine’s day

B and I were never big on Valentine’s Day. We never made much of a fuss. Just not our thing. In order to make even less of a fuss about the day we went ahead and had children. No time for fancy dinners, champagne, candle light — not that we had those things before. Now it’s school, work, dancing school, Valentine’s party at school with candy, valentine’s and snacks to prepare, and heart shaped pizza for dinner. The girls each received a a personalized blanket and a sweet little bracelet. We had a hectic day, but a nice family dinner. That’s a good Valentine’s Day!

daddy’s promise

Daddy is full of promises. He was so sad that Annabelle was sick and couldn’t go to Breckenridge. In fact, he was so sad he told her if she rested and got better he would take her to Chuck E Cheese on Sunday. Oh man! Not Chuck E Cheese! Of course, once he said it there was no turning back. Both girls talked about it all weekend. Gwyneth was very specific as she said “we’re going to Chuck E Cheese at 5!”. So, we did just that.
The girls were so happy to see each other. They were hugging and kissing and then fighting within 10 minutes! Ahhhhh, my family is back together and life is normal again. My girls really do adore each other. They also love to torment, taunt, and terrorize each other. But, they really do love each other. Best buds!

glitter

Annabelle woke up feeling like a brand-new girl Saturday morning. Unfortunately she was still contagious. She played with her babies, trashed my sewing room, and colored in her princess coloring books. That got us to about 9 am and then she was bored and antsy. It certainly didn’t help that we’ve been snowed it for the past few weeks and today it was 65 degrees. What were we to do? Only one thing came to mind…
GLITTER!
We headed to the craft store and picked up glitter pens and glitter glue. My girl was in heaven! She spent the rest of the day creating Valentines for her family and friends. I was worried about the mess, but it wasn’t bad….except maybe the glitter in her hair! She’s getting really good at writing her name too. I kinda feel bad watching her learn how to spell it. It’s a long one. I guess GG got lucky!

BTW – she showered and changed pants and undershirt but the Dora shirt was a fixture for the weekend. All the clothes in her closet and she wanted Dora. Ugh, what’s a mom to do?

strep throat

We were all set for a snowy, sledding, fun-filled weekend in Breckenridge. One little hiccup in the plan — Annabelle woke up from her nap with a 104 temp. Off to the doctor we went and what do you know? Strep! This is a February tradition for her.
Annabelle and I stayed home and sent B and Gwyneth off to Breckenridge. It was my attempt to keep Gwyneth from getting sick (keeping my fingers very tightly crossed that this plan worked!). Annabelle’s fever spiked to 105 in the  middle of the night but then broke Saturday morning. Nothing makes me more anxious than a sick little one. I DO NOT LIKE IT. I worry. I stress. I can’t sleep. I just hate when they don’t feel well.
Even though she was feeling very sick, she was very specific about what she wanted to wear and how her hair needed to be fixed for her doctor’s appointment. 3 braids – not one, not two, three! C’mon mom! Not even an illness can turn off this girl’s sass.

happy birthday, avery and ryan

Avery and Ryan are two! We were so happy to celebrate with them and I couldn’t wait to see them in their monkey shirts. I made the shirts and Amy had the cake made using the shirts as a model. How. Stinkin’. Cute! Annabelle and Gwyneth had a great time playing with the twins as well as the Carlson boys. The dads all had a good time watching the Super Bowl!

piano lesson

Annabelle had her very first piano lesson tonight. She loved it! She learned all about the different kind of pianos, the keys, and NOT to bang on pianos.

She has very sweetly requested a bench and an upright piano. Why stop there? Why not a baby grand? She gave me a very sassy-3-year-old look and told me she already had a piano picked out from her book. Indeed it’s an upright with a bench! Now, where in the world are we going to put that???? I think we need a bigger house!

She is very excited about her lessons and since she’s only 3 I have decided not to go Chinese Tiger Mom on her…..yet.

canyon loop trail

Colorado is beautiful. We’re so lucky to live here and have vowed to take advantage of our beautiful surroundings more often. Today was a perfect day before the storm arrives (cold and snow in the forecast…). We took a hike around Canyon Loop trail which is just west of Boulder.
The girls always seem to surprise me. I was certain Gwyneth would love the hike, but it turns out she wanted a ride from her dad while Annabelle wanted to explore. You just never know with these girls…  We went for lunch in Nederland at the Black Forest Restaurant and then rode the carousel.  It was a perfect, Colorado – family kind of day.

poppy and melissa

Poppy and Melissa drove down from Breckenridge and spent the day with us before heading back to St. Louis. We had a nice lunch at Baker St and then headed to the park. We relaxed at home while Gwyneth napped until it was time to head to Morton’s for dinner. Yum! Morton’s dinner! Such a treat. Grandma and Grandpa Meyer joined us for dinner and it was a good one. The girls enjoyed what is known as “The Madison Salad” in our family and shared a steak. Yes, they are now ordering their own steak at Morton’s. I feel sorry for the boys that take these girls on dates somedays….they’ll have their work cut out for them. The girls were amazing. The meal was 4 hours and they ate well and behaved even better. I’m so proud of them.
