no place like home

Gwyneth is obsessed with dressing up. Truly obsessed! I may as well throw away all her blue jeans. We’re in for a rough winter if I can’t talk this girl out of princess dresses and fairy costumes everyday.
I found this dress at Gymboree super marked down and thought it would make a perfect “Dorothy” dress. Miss Gwyneth was thrilled! Yes, that’s an elephant Toto.

The girls enjoy acting out scenes from Wizard of Oz. When I asked Annabelle what she wanted to be when she grows up she said “Glinda”. I said “oh, an actress would be fun! You can live in California or New York and play all different characters.” She said “No Mom. Not an actress. I want to be GLINDA!”.

watching airplanes

After gymnastics class, we joined Tom, Amy, Bella and Brayden for dinner at the Runway Grill. We got a great seat by the window, had a fabulous little coupon, and we only managed to scare off half the patrons with my insanely wound up children.
Tom and Amy are great friends and it’s been interesting to see how the kids pair up. Annabelle and Bella are our princesses and Brayden and Gwyneth are cool cats. They all play well together and each of my girls has found their own special buddy. I couldn’t ask for more!
Gwyneth shared her stories of air travel on her own airplane, with her own tv and her very own lunchbox of goodies. Goodness! She may have a tainted view of travel these days.

bbq festival

You can’t ask for a better weekend in the Rockies. The Strawberry Festival in Glenwood Springs in the morning and the BBQ festival in Frisco in the afternoon. Good stuff! The BBQ festival is my favorite — it’s a great crowd and delicious food. Yum! I would highly recommend checking it out.

grandma paz

My Grandmother passed away today. She has been battling illness for the past 10 years and is in a much better place now.
My Grandparents didn’t have much while my dad was growing up but they were amazingly devoted to one another. They have a truly remarkable love story. I remember from my childhood them always being together, them driving their RV around the country, eating Dairy Queen banana splits out of big plastic bowls at their kitchen table, and being terrified of their cat! My Grandma had the most beautiful long brown hair. She always wore these pretty delicate barrettes to hold it back. I was completely enamored with her hair and swore when I was a grown up I would have long hair (got it) and beautiful barrettes (don’t have ’em).
We went out to dinner with them every Friday night and from the stories it sounds like I was a little monster. It’s hard to believe that’s true — I think my parents are making that part up.
My Grandparents had an admiral work ethic and intelligence that they clearly passed on to their two sons. My Uncle Jerry is an orthodontist and goes to Haiti each year to help the underprivileged. He has seven kids and seven grandkids. My dad, well you all know my dad and let’s just say he has done all right. (understatement of the year, but I know he wouldn’t want me bragging about him on here). He has three daughters and seven granddaughters. It’s pretty safe to say my grandparents had a lot to be proud of.
I always thought I looked like my mom, but my dad thinks I look like my Grandma Paz. No question who my dad resembles.

tommy knockers

Traffic….oh, how we loathe you. The Meyer’s have a bit of a chip on their shoulder when it comes to the mountains (yes, I just referred to our family in the 3rd person – what of it?).  We live in Colorado, we go to the mountains often and we believe when we want to drive up I-70 everyone should get the heck out of our way. Not everyone agrees and decided to cause a big ol’ traffic jam on our way up to Breck this weekend. Booooo!
B was fed up with the other idiot drivers (anyone on the rode, in our way is clearly an idiot….I love the way this man thinks!), the girls had gone from watching a movie and singing to poking each other and making each other cry and I just like a happy family so we stopped in Idaho Springs for an early dinner.
Since we’re kicking off our Strawberry weekend, it was only fitting the girls got strawberry creme sodas. They were thrilled with their strawberry “beers” as they called them. Hmmmm….just when you think you’re doing things right they straighten you out and let you know you’re a mess!

fire station

There have been some pretty bad wildfires in Colorado this summer. They are about an hour north of our house, but we can see the smoke and the low air quality has kept us indoors.
Miss Annabelle has been freaked out by the fires and has had a lot of questions about fire safety, fire alarms, firemen, etc. To ease her mind we went on a tour of our local fire station. The firemen showed her all the trucks and how the water gets  to the hoses and then to the houses. They also showed her how calls come in, their equipment and how quickly they can respond to emergencies.
Fabulous Mom award here, right? Nope. At the end of the tour instead of the big smile and relief I expected Annabelle said “Can we please get out of here? I am freaking out!!”. Can’t win ’em all, I guess.
Lunch with Daddy before our tour.

dress up

Thanks to Auntie Becky the new favorite game at our house is  “Wedding Girls”. It consists of the girls putting on their flower girl dresses and saying back and forth “I’m the bride. No, I’m the bride. No, I’m the bride. No, I’m the bride. No, I’m the bride….” you get the gist right? This goes on for quite some time until they finally settle on both being brides or Gwyneth gets tired of fighting and puts on her Belle dress.

Gwyneth’s favorite dress is her Belle costume. She adores this dress and cries when she can’t wear it to school (which is requested EVERY SINGLE morning).

Annabelle’s dress is the flower girl dress that Madison wore in my sister, Stacy’s wedding. It is now referred to as the Glinda dress.

Every little princess needs a trampoline to truly show off her ball gown.

madagascar 3

While B golfed, the girls and I had a special afternoon at the movie theater. We went to see Madagascar 3 and enjoyed that kids eat free at Cinebarre on Mondays. The movie was cute — lots of adult humor to keep me entertained. Despite the fact there were no princesses or mermaids the girls enjoyed it (although they would have enjoyed it a lot more if there was a princess or two).

After our movie we headed to the Disney store to check out their big sale. Miss Annabelle picked out a Little Mermaid swimsuit for her pool party and Gwyneth picked out a Belle dress for her enchanted tea party. Given Gwyneth’s love of dresses I can already imagine the fights we are going to have about wearing this dress. She has already requested to wear it everyday and she HAS to wear it to school. What can I say? The girl likes her fancy dresses.

zoo day

I took the day off work (I really, really like being my own boss) and we met some friends for our first preview of the new elephant exhibit at the zoo. You need an appointment to get in which helps keep the crowds to a minimum. That sucker cost $50 million to build and we saw two elephants and a rhino. Ok, I am not easily impressed, but I didn’t get all the hub bub.
We had a great time at the zoo — love going during the week and early in the morning when it’s just us and the animals!
The girls enjoying the sites, sounds, and smells of the zoo….
