crafts

B had a busy day at the Kitchen so the girls and I hung out at home. I had lots of work to get done too, so I let each of the girls invite a friend over to play. It was quite a craft day for them. They made sailboats, foam cakes, and water color pictures. They couldn’t have been happier!
I dropped the girls off for a Kids Night Out program at their dance studio – which they absolutely adore – and I was able to attend the class at Blue Mountain Kitchen. B did such a great job, it was such a good time, and the food was delicious. The course was a healthy cooking class and although I don’t enjoy cooking I do enjoy eating. Amy joined me and the evening flew by far too quickly.
I had devoured most of my meal before I remembered that I should take a picture. Here’s what’s left of the quinoa, salmon, and cucumber sauce. So delicious!
Our dessert: Panna Cotta with fresh strawberries and a balsamic reduction. Yum, Yum, Yum!

sick day

Gwyneth has had a rough year with illnesses. She woke up around 4 am with a cough and then proceeded to throw up on the floor on my side of the bed. Oye! There is just nothin’ fun about that.
She stayed home from school and by 8 am I knew that she was feeling perfectly fine. She ate approximately 3 breakfasts and talked non-stop. She is quite the character. We had a very quiet day and night with Annabelle at dance. Glad to see our sweet girl feeling better.
Looking quite bored by evening.

coffee date

Thursdays are H-E-C-T-I-C for us ladies. There is dance, math club, Girl Scouts, homework, reading….and on and on. Thursdays we are machines and we run around town and work little brains and bodies and then collapse on Fridays. I’m quite ready to rework this crazy schedule, but have months until I can adjust dancing school classes. I will do better next year. I WILL. (Remind me I said this in August when the madness starts back up again).
We dropped Annabelle off at math club and rather than running back home we did homework at Starbucks. Gwyneth thought it was the best. She had hot chocolate and a snack and we read and did math homework. Saved us a few minutes in the car and she looks pretty darn happy:

bmk: cupcake wars

The kids were off school so we hosted a Cupcake Wars challenge at the Kitchen. We had a great turnout and the kids had some very interesting ideas. B made them homemade pizzas, fruit and cheese which they devoured. I helped them to make the base for their cupcakes and they got to add their own special ingredients to make them unique.
Annabelle and Ryan made vanilla cupcakes with peppermint crumble topped with a green icing, chocolate chips, and bacon. They fittingly called them their “Barf” cupcakes.
Gwyneth and Reagan made vanilla cupcakes with whoppers. They won the blind tasting (thank you B for being brave enough to try all those cupcakes!!). They were super into the baking and couldn’t have been happier to win!

Winners – YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
“We’re #1!!”
Who would thought a “Barf-cake” would not be delicious???
Having so much fun!

guster

We’ve been planning this night out for months! Guster is one of our favorite bands and they don’t tour very often. We were so excited when we heard they were going to be playing in Denver. We were not so excited when we learned the show didn’t start until 9. We are old! I like to be in my jammies by 9, but we went for it.
The girls both had sleepovers at friends’ houses. It so nice to not have to worry about a babysitter or getting home too late. I’m so thankful for their friends and the wonderful families who are looking out for them.
We met Don and Lisa for a pre-show beverage and then grabbed a low-key dinner in our old hold. We made it to the show and were a few rows back from the stage. There was the obligatory “buying drugs in Colorado jokes” and lots and lots of good music. Good times!

daisys: teddy bear tea party

We hosted Gwyneth’s Girl Scout Meeting at the Kitchen tonight. The girls were invited to a Teddy Bear Tea Party and we focused on kind manners. They dined on daisy shaped turkey sandwiches, cheese and fruit and sipped on apple cinnamon tea. We played “Mother May I” with wonderfully sweet manners and made a teapot picture frame craft.
Miss Gwyneth so excited for her meeting:
Annabelle joined us this evening too and although she is a Brownie and thinks she is too cool for this Daisy stuff she always has a good time.

bronco bummer

We gathered with friends to celebrate Lisa’s birthday and watch the Bronco game. It was an absolute blast hanging out with these fabulous folks, but the game was a bummer.
Happy birthday to my dear, dear friend Lisa. Just love this girl!!
Crazy Brennan

So glad it was a day game so we could spend the day with friends. We’ve had bad luck with Conleys watching night games because I never want to go. So glad for a day game!

The girls hid their sorrow for the Bronco loss with dress up and make up.
Kaylee and Hannah — these ladies have been friends since birth. They are growing up to be such a gorgeous, sweet girls.

swamped saturday

Today was not one of my finest. I had to work in the morning and B left early for the kitchen and I just wasn’t prepared. The girls were in need of attention and there just wasn’t enough of me to go around. It was disappointing and I felt stretched too thin. We are still trying to figure things out. We are going through a big learning curve around here.
B had another big event tonight and we stopped in the kitchen to try some of the food. I piped out big trays of gourmet deviled eggs and not only were they pretty they were DELICIOUS!
I made brownie bites for the event and didn’t even let my girls have a single one for breakfast. Such a mean mom!

The girls had library books and a craft of duct tape and mail boxes. They decorated their mail boxes fabulously and they wrote letters and filled each others mail boxes. I was frantically trying to get work done and heard lots of shouting and angry “ANNNNABELLLLE”s and “GWYNETH, STOP!!!!”s.  Makes it a little hard to concentrate, but then I later took a look at the letters they wrote to each other and their mailboxes were filled with “I love you”s and “You are the best sister ever”. Just when I’m about ready to knock their heads together they go and do something super sweet.

Gwyneth found these two books at Costco. You can only imagine her delight.

Today we attempted the braid crown and fancy curls. Let’s just say that it took me a LONG time, but she was really happy so it was worth it. And she does look like a little princess, doesn’t she?

We ended our crazy day with a party at the Tyler’s. Steph graduated from college and Amy joined us in toasting her. Congratulations!!

ballerina hair

Gwyneth is not about simple hairstyles. She has long gorgeous locks but I’m usually running quite late in the morning so no time for fancy. I promised that I would try to help her out a little more and get more creative with her hair so here is the first attempt. Simple, but fun and she was happy.

Then it was time for dancing school and she wanted this fabulous flower bun. How could I resist?

 That is one beautiful ballerina!
