basement camping

The day after sleepovers are trouble. There is very little sleep involved. We have very crabby girls. We know it going in so we try to prepare for it. Sometimes you just can’t be prepared for a tired-hungry-crabby Meyer girl. There is seriously no comparison. The rage and tears that can come from these little girls (who am I kidding, their parents too) is quite impressive.
The tent was up so we had a very quiet movie night in the tent. I use the word night quite loosely as they were in pj’s by 3 pm and asleep for the night soon after dinner.

happy birthday: annie and julia

Today was full of parties and friends. Gwyneth kicked off the day with a princess party for her friend Annie’s birthday. Annie loves mermaids and Ariel even made an appearance at the party. We ran over that morning to get her a mermaid gift and Gwyneth used her gift card from Christmas to get the new Frozen costume.
My sister in law sent me a video on how to do the Frozen braid. I realized when it was done that I did it backwards, but Gwyneth was pleased with it so it stayed!

sweet sisters

While Gwyneth was at her party, Annabelle had a little nail painting time. She then headed for a sleepover for her friend Julia. She was quite excited and had a blast (and very little sleep!).

Since Annabelle was away for the night, Gwyneth invited Jenna over for a craft, movie, and American Girl Doll sleepover. B put the tent up for them in the basement and they had a little indoor camp out.

chalk

My gals and their friend Brielle take art class together on Wednesdays after school. I pick them up and they have a little play time afterwards. Today was a beautiful day for popsicles and sidewalk chalk.
Although Brielle is Gwyneth’s age and in 1st grade, these 3 play beautifully together. I wish I could borrow her for weekends or long car rides. She is such a dear little friend to the girls and saves me from sibling bickering.

sprain

Gwyneth took a bad spill at the birthday party yesterday. She woke up still limping so we took her in for an x-ray. Just a little precaution. Just a little sprain. She was excited about getting her ankle wrapped up. Not so excited to miss recess or P.E. the rest of the week.

happy birthday: ivy

B left before the sun came up this morning for a catering event. He catered a breakfast and didn’t even bring any home for Gwyneth. He’s a brave man.
After their friends were picked up, I took the girls to church and then we went for lunch. B surprised us and met us just as our food was arriving. He snuck in a quick order and we were able to have a family lunch together. I don’t want him to work on Sunday’s, but sometimes he does. Not all the time, but sometimes. Not terribly often, but sometimes.
He had a kitchen full of dirty dishes so the girls and I went back to help him clean. They got right to work and love being a help in the kitchen.

We hire only the fanciest to do the dishes:
We celebrate Ivy’s birthday with a gymnastics party in Loveland.

The girls had a blast and were worn out. Happy, happy birthday to Ivy!

sleepover saturday

The girls each had a friend sleepover and the four of them attended Kids Night Out at their dance studio. It was Saturday night and the girls were out and B was out, so naturally I had big plans. I cleaned. I cleaned our house for 3 hours. I cleaned out closets and dressers and under beds (my girls are hoarders!) and I had 3 extra large trash bags to set out on the curb. I don’t known when a night to myself and de-cluttering became a treat, but I tell ya I wasn’t sad about it.

daisy: chalk garden

The end of Gwyneth’s 2nd year of being a Daisy is growing near. Brownies are around the corner, if she chooses to continue. I am committed to sticking with her until she’s done with it. I don’t know how long it will last. Right now she says she likes that I am her leader and its a great group of girls who have become sweet friends to her. That is the reward. The smiles. Gwyneth’s little smile.
Tonight we planted Daisy seeds in the pots we painted at our last meeting. The girls want to give them to their moms for Mother’s day. Gwyneth has hers hidden on the side of the house and waters it daily so I’m hoping, hoping, hoping she has a little sprout to surprise me with — I know she wants it bad.

The girls also created a giant chalk flower garden on our drive way. I was worried that this activity would not be very exciting for them, but they were thrilled. They were so creative and supportive and our driveway was a beautiful flower collage.

Is there really any other acceptable way for a spring driveway to look?
(If you look at the end of the driveway you will spy Annabelle’s pink bum sticking right up in the air. I can’t look at this picture without giggling at her silliness)

true food

Annabelle can’t keep her hands off of my camera. She loves to take pictures. I’m hoping to find her some local photography courses. I can only teach her to point and click – that’s about the extent of my knowledge. She loves it and wants to learn more and I always find these fabulous shots on my camera which make my day:
After a wonderfully, relaxing weekend in Breck I dropped my family off at home and then headed down to Cherry Creek to meet my dear friend Eleanor. All the gals met up the previous night for dinner and although I was bummed to miss them, I was selfishly happy to have a delicious lunch with Eleanor all to myself.
We sipped martinis and enjoyed some yummy wraps and were able to talk. Yes, talk. Moms of two kids and we were able to just sit and talk. Yes, it was just as lovely as it sounds. I could have stayed all day.
I adore Eleanor and her family and I’m always so thrilled when we have opportunities to get together. Annabelle tends to be at dance and is growing quite resentful of her exclusion – we will work on that this summer.  But isn’t it just wonderful to have lunch with a fabulous friend and not worry if you packed crayons or have to take someone to the bathroom as soon as your drink has arrived? It is. It is wonderful. I suppose because it is rare we cherish it more, but I wouldn’t be sad if we made it a priority.

margaritas

The girls wanted to go sledding, but it was a bit icy. They couldn’t keep control of the sled and were constantly heading for trees. Luckily B was behind them screaming “abort, abort!” before they actually hit anything. They weren’t really laughing, but I couldn’t stop.
The girls relaxed in the hot tub and I read my book uninterrupted. Heaven!
We had dinner at Mi Casa and the girls each ordered their first strawberry margarita (non-alcoholic of course). Oh, the can of worms that we have opened…..
Wait, more hot tub time? Yes, yes indeed. Apparently there is never enough hot tub time.
It was beautiful up in the mountains this weekend. Feeling grateful for the peace, quiet, and relaxation.

dillon

We had a quiet family weekend in Breckenridge this weekend. It was so relaxing and quite lovely. We ate, we drank, we played games, the girls spent most of the time in the hot tub.

It was a beautiful weekend. Still plenty of snow on the ground but so warm and sunny.
We went down to Dillon for lunch. Gwyneth and B watched the Rockies home opener while Annabelle and I explored the outlet malls. I’m not much of shopper, but Annabelle needed some new clothes and it was fun to shop with her. She definitely has her own sense of style….and that involves a lot of maxi-dresses!
