Mommy Guilt

Things have been pretty hectic at the Meyer house these days. I have been working a lot and B has been picking up my slack with the house and the girls. I think the girls really enjoy their teachers and friends at daycare but when I have to go into the office on the weekends I feel overwhelming guilt for the time I have to be away from them.

I worked late Friday night and was supposed to make dinner for the Clingmans to come over. Unfortunately by the time I got home B had already served pizza – it was fun to hang out and hear about their trip even though I was late.

Saturday I took Annabelle to her music class and we all had lunch with Grandma and Grandpa Meyer. B took the girls home and off to work I went. I didn’t get home until right before they went to bed.

Today was a similar story – I headed into the office and had to get the heck out of there just in time for B to leave to take Nathan to the movies. I really enjoyed having some one on one time with my girls but I’d really just like to find a nice balance between work, husband, and kids. I know I’m not the first (or the last) to struggle with all the demands, but I have opened a bottle of wine and embarked on my first glass. My hope is that the answer to the struggle is at the bottom of the bottle. Wink, Wink!

Saturday morning I gave the girls a bath – they love playing in the tub together & boy, it saves me a lot of time!

Finally some play time with the girls.

Sushi in the City

It was a gorgeous day! Mid-60’s in January – you just can’t beat the Colorado weather. B and the girls met me at my office and we took advantage of the great weather and walked around downtown. The girls loved the lights! We heard a lot of “wow”s and “oooh”s from Annabelle and Miss G just took it all in. We had dinner at Sushi Han, in Writer Square. It was Annabelle’s first attempt at sushi! She loved the rice but was not too keen on the fish. I’m just happy she was adventurous enough to try it. She did manage to eat just the rice and avocado from the california & dragon rolls. Clever girl! We can’t wait to introduce G to sushi too!!

After dinner, B took the girls home and put them to bed and I met Jen, Tammy, Consuelo and Sheila at Gov’s for a late happy hour. It was a lot of fun although I am definitely feeling my age because I get annoyed by the big crowds at the bar. It was far too loud to catch up so we ended up next door at the Lala’s Wine Bar. Much better!

Little Momma

Annabelle is such a little mom! We are amazed when we watch her take care of her babies. She takes her duties very seriously. She always liked her dolls, but she has learned so much from watching us take care of Gwyneth. She tries to steal Gwyneth’s blankets to swaddle her babies and Gwyneth’s bottles to feed them. Luckily she received some play diapers, baby clothes, blankets, and bottles for Christmas.

Feeding her babyBottle time Burping her baby

Time to take the baby shoppingAfter putting her baby down for a nap she had some time to wrestle with her dad. That is some crazy hair but you gotta love those big ol’ blues and adorable smile!!

Gwyneth had a nice break tonight because Annabelle was preoccupied with her baby dolls. She was able to roll around on the ground and play with some of her toys from Christmas. We pulled out the old caterpillar that Annabelle loved – when you stretch it out it will shrink back and shake. She hated it! Everytime it would shake she would start crying. It’s really interesting how different they are.

Looking more and more like Auntie Becky! I can remember Becky being this age and I’m quite certain I’m much nicer to Gwyneth than I ever was to her. 😉

Camera Found

We went to see Uncle Jeff coach the girls basketball game at the highschool near our house and then Aunt Jen, Ryan, and Reagan came back to our house for dinner. Jen brought a diet coke chocolate cake for dessert. YUM! Annabelle had so much fun chasing after Ryan and Reagan is on the go chasing after them both. GG was so tired she had a bottle and went right to bed.

After the Loddens headed home, B asked me to retrace my steps to find my camera. I told him the last time I remember having it I thought to myself “self, put this somewhere where Annabelle won’t find it”. I guess I’m a little too good at hiding things because I couldn’t remember where I hid it. Luckily I found it hidden in the girls’ playroom – what in the world was I thinking???

Here are the highlights from our day at the Children’s Museum with Andrew:

Daddy and his girls ready for some fun
Andrew goes in for the body slam
These two are buds from school and have a bit of a love/hate relationship. They are all hugs when they first see each other and then proceed to beat each other through out the day.

Gwynny having a great time in the infant “pond”

Not being one to miss out on any of the fun, Annabelle had to check out Gwyneth’s pond too.

Hole in The Wall

I’ve been known to watch some crap tv, but this game show by far takes the cake. The contestants are dressed in horrible metallic suits with big ol’ helmets which you find out are completely necessary. There are moving walls that have cut outs that the contestants must fit through or they either get knocked out by the wall or fall into this bright green pool of water. Stupid right? RIGHT! It is so ridiculously stupid we just couldn’t turn away. Several people on the show are obese so there is no way they could ever fit through these holes so not only are they showing off their wonderful bod’s in the tight silver suits they are getting the snot beat of out them by this wall!

The sad thing is I don’t think B and I have laughed this hard at a show in quite some time. As most of you know I find people falling down hilarious. I get myself in trouble because I can’t contain my laughter. This show involves a lot of falling, goofy dancing, and people genuinely shocked that they didn’t squeeze themselves through a little tiny hole in the wall. lost camera

I took so many cute pictures of the girls this weekend but can not find my camera!! It’s driving me crazy. We’ve searched for it and it is no where to be found. I’m certain B thinks I’m hiding it so I can get a new one but I really have no idea where it is! Hopefully it will turn up soon.

Saturday morning we met the Lemek’s at the Children’s Museum (pictures coming soon…hopefully). Andrew and Annabelle played really hard & Gwyneth rolled around in the baby pond area. We wore them out. B headed home with the girls and I had lunch with Jennifer B & Tawni. Jennifer brought her little one, Caley, who is now 9 months old. She is such a sweet girl and looks so much like her dad. We finished off the day at Grandma and Grandpa Meyer’s where the whole family got together to celebrate Chriss’ birthday.

On Sunday I finally got to meet Ben Carlson! What a cutie!! He is such a tiny little guy. He seems so mellow – while I was there he hardly made a fuss and was just so content to be swaddled and laying on his poppy pillow. Jennifer & Keith look suprisingly well rested for having two kids under two! Jack is going to be a great big brother. Jennifer has added a lot of new pictures of the little guys together on their website (the link is on the left).

Welcome 2009!

Gwyneth has been feeling a little off since we got back from San Fran so we decided to scrap our plans and stay home with the girls for New Years Eve. What a great time! B made a delicious dinner and we had a really nice, quiet evening at home. Much needed! I should also note, that I was pregnant the past two NYE’s so this year was the first that I actually stayed up past midnight and I was able to partake in a little wine!!

Gwyneth’s first new years day! We had both girls cracking up when we said “hello – it’s 2009. Gwyneth is so 2008!” Silly.
Looks like someone partied a bit too hard last night…
Since we’re not quite the rock stars we use to be, we made plans to meet the Loddens at the Wildlife Experience at 10:00 on New Years Day. (Yep, I do believe we were still inebriated at 10 on some prior new years days – what responsible parents we’ve become!) The kids really enjoyed the museum. After playing for a few hours we met up with the Rewalts for lunch.
Ryan, Reagan, & AnnabelleGwyneth will be so happy when she can get down and run around with the big kids!Pure Terror! Or at least that’s the look Annabelle gave when she was coming down the slide. It looks like we’re torturing her. Not true – she loved it! She wanted to go again and again. Each time she made this face coming down and then burst into laughter!Reagan is so close to walking. These two will be trouble when they are running together!
Happy New Year!

Ben has arrived!

Benjamin William Carlson arrived via c-section at 3:15. He weighs 7 lbs 6 oz which makes him seem like a little peanut compared to his brother, Jack who was 9 1/2 lbs. Both mom and baby are doing great. I can’t wait to meet him and will post pictures as soon as I’m able to snap a few.
