carlson’s

Oh my, the girls were so excited to see their friends Jack and Ben. All day they talked about them coming over and Annabelle sat by the window waiting for them to arrive. When they pulled in the driveway Annabelle started screaming “Jack and Ben are here! Jack and Ben are here! Open the door!”. I guess you could say she was a little excited.

We had a great time tonight. B grilled up some steaks which were delicious and we spent the evening catching up and watching the kids play. Jennifer’s last day at Qwest was Friday so we’re looking forward to getting the kids together more often this summer.

Yum, dinner time!

Ben wore a lot of his cupcake.

Mr. Jack

Cupcake time!

bunco

My neighbor asked me to switch months with her, so tonight was my night to host Bunco. I only had a few days to get ready, so I went with the easiest theme I could find….Easter. Added benefit, whatever is left of the candy and decorations can be used next week for the real Easter.
My girls loved the theme and had a blast helping me set up. Annabelle set up the centerpieces for the tables. Green grass, robin eggs and chocolate bunnies. As quickly as Annabelle set them up, Gwyneth ate the candies. It took several tries but Annabelle finally managed to get them set up. She was quite pleased with herself and Gwyneth was rather pleased with her chocolate!

Staying with the bunny theme we had carrots and celery and some graham crackers and carrot cake dip.

The Bunco girls

mermaid breakfast

Jen and Reagan joined us for a morning with the mermaids. The Denver Aquarium hosted a special event including a brunch buffet, watching the mermaids swim with the fish and then meeting them. The girls loved watching them swim, but were very shy when it came to getting their picture taken with them.
My girls had so much fun with their aunt and cousin. I really enjoy seeing the girls play together. It’s so sweet. They just adore each other. Even though we live on opposite ends of town I’m glad we get together often for things like this.
Of course each of the girls had their very own mermaid shirt too!

houseguests

While their parents vacationed in the Dominican, Cade and Laney stayed with us for 6 days. We were chasing around a 4 year old, 3 year old, 2 year old, and 9 month old. We must be insane! The girls had a really good time having their friends stay with us. They were all very sweet and well behaved. There were a few tears, lots of coughing, lots of runny noses and a few sleepless nights, but we survived!
Big thanks to Sheila and Lance for their help this weekend!

sharing the spotlight

My girls love to dance! Annabelle is usually the ring leader and puts on shows for us. She can usually get Gwyneth to be her back up dancer. They make us sit down and say “Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the show” and then dance, dance, dance.

Annabelle definitely likes to be in the spotlight. She decides the show’s theme and it’s typically along the lines of “Beauty and the Beast”, “Cinderella”, “Sleeping Beauty”, or “Alice in Wonderland”. Annabelle always casts herself as the princess and Gwyneth either gets stuck being the prince or the evil witch. Funny thing, Gwyneth never really minds being the witch. She has the cutest little wicked cackle down. It’s funny to see such a sweet girl delight in being so evil…

Now, on occassion Gwyneth decides she will not play second fiddle to her sister. She isn’t happy being the back-up dancer or the witch and decides she needs the spotlight. This is when the trouble starts. Annabelle does not give up her lead role quietly and Gwyneth doesn’t retreat without a fight.

One must admire the fact that Annabelle maintains her smile and stage presence through out. The show must go on….
My poor little G. You can’t win them all.

How can you not be a sucker for this little face? My girl has nailed that pouty lower lip. We crumble for it!

When Annabelle went to dance class tonight, Gwyneth and I met the Fessler’s at Gunther Toody’s for dinner and then went shopping together. She sang her way through the grocery store and got plenty of attention. She certainly got her spotlight after all.

invesco

Gotta love Groupons! For $10, our family and the Tyler’s toured Invesco Field. We were able to see the executive suites, party suites, the Champions Club, press box, the locker rooms and then walked out on the field. The girls had a blast running around with Rhys and Wyatt. Very fun tour — I would definitely recommend it.

snow?

What the heck is this? Ugh – SNOW?!?! Really?!?!? I’m in the spring state of mind. I’m ready for summer, for goodness sakes. This suprising arrival in my lawn this morning was not welcomed. Hppefully it will be the last of the winter…

monday nights with gwyneth

Annabelle has dancing school on Monday nights and we’ve gotten into a really good routine. B takes Annabelle to dance class each week and I hang out with Gwyneth. We typically go grocery shopping and she’s a perfect little shopping companion. This week we were all stocked up on food so we decided to head to Gunther Toody’s for kids eat free night. We shared a milk shake and had a great time just the two of us. We came home and did some crafts. I love, love, love our one on one time. She is such a sweet and funny girl!

princesses on ice

The girls received tickets to Princesses on Ice from Poppy and Melissa. We had great seats — 2nd row! Gwyneth was so happy when Mickey and Minnie came out and when asked of all the princesses which is her favorite she said “I like Goofy!”. Love it.
Annabelle was in awe of the princesses. Her favorites are Snow White and Cinderella. We have never watched Aladdin or Sleeping Beauty and she was very intrigued by them. I think we’ll have to check those out.
There were a couple scary moments with loud pops, fireworks and villians. Gwyneth was not having that and eventually her and B had to move up a few rows. Once she was a little further away from the action she was much more relaxed. So much so, she fell asleep about 10 minutes before the show ended!

penalty box

I won tickets through work to watch the Avs warm up from the penalty box. Talk about great seats! We even got to step out onto the ice before the game started. During warm ups the players took shots right at the penalty box glass to entertain the kids. Annabelle got into it and started hitting the glass but Gwyneth got a little freaked out. Gwyneth was happy with her Avs stocking cap though — that girl LOVES hats.
We had great seats for the game also — just a few rows up. Of course, we were a bit too close, because during the first period that was a big fight with fists flying, blood, and some intense language. Maybe hockey isn’t quite a family friend sport?
