pretty nails

I really don’t like clipping the girls’ nails. They are quite dramatic and when I come at them with nail clippers you would think I was attempting to amputate a limb. I enjoy pretty much everything about being a mom, so to keep that statement true I have given up cutting their nails and splurge and get their nails cut at our local salon. Before you judge me too harshly for this extravagance, here’s the deal: they charge me $5/girl to cut their fingernails, toenails and then paint them. They even throw in a flower on their thumbs and big toes. Um, best $10 I’ve ever spent…and look at the smiles on their faces! Now, if I can just find someone to brush their hair….

Annabelle is my girlie girl. She always picks pink or purple and agonizes over her choice!

Gwyneth walks in the salon and says “I want Blue”. I pick out two different shades of blue for her and ask which she wants. She responds “I want Blue”. Blue it is!!

happy birthday, laney

Miss Laney is one! My girls just adore her….how could anyone not? She’s a stinkin’ cutie. She’s a very sweet girl and we were very happy to celebrate with her. The kiddos spent the morning splashing around the pool and eating muffins, croissants, and lots of other brunch goodies. Laney did a great job with her smash cake while the kids consumed exorbitant amounts of icing and a wee bit of cake.
We are big fans of Miss Laney-Bug at our house! My girls are constantly in her face and she doesn’t even seem to mind. Thank goodness, because they can’t get enough of her. Happy Birthday, Laney! Excited to see all the new tricks you learn in the coming year.

No ma, I didn’t have another cupcake. Why do you ask????
The girls decided to “bling out” Missi. That’s about all I can say about this….

gifts for gwyneth

After the party we headed back to our house to open the gaggle of gifts that Gwyneth received. She made out like a bandit. Thank you to all our wonderful and generous friends who made this little girl’s birthday very special. Two more special shout outs….
1 – Thank you to our friends who gave Gwyneth loud, music playing gifts. You have broke our eardrums and pleased our daughter endlessly. We will do our very best to return that favor when you children’s bithdays roll around. You know who you are – be afraid, be very afraid.

2 – Thank you to Uncle Paul who seems to have an endless supply of gum for our girls. I know you put a lot of time into picking out the perfect piece of gum for each of them and they are beyond grateful. The giant gumball filled with nerds that was bigger than Annabelle’s head — Wow, just wow! You have set the bar high, Uncle Paul, very high indeed.

chuck e cheese

Gwyneth really, really, really wanted her birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. Now, her daddy and I tried to be the voice of reason explaining to her that she has been – to put it delicately – horrifically terrified of the big mouse on our prior visits AND the pizza is gut-wrenching awful (that last bit we kept to ourselves).
Our girl could not be deterred. Chuck E Cheese was were she wanted to celebrate. Now, Gwyneth is our baby. Yes, she will be three tomorrow, but nonetheless she is our baby girl — always will be. Along with that comes a bit of spoiling. Probably an understatement to say that we give her whatever she wants and she easily has us wrapped around her little finger. I don’t fancy myself a  pushover, but Miss Gwyneth has a way of flashing those big green eyes at me, giving me her big pouty lip and I melt. I only hope she will continue use this amazing power she has for good rather than evil!
So, Chuck E Cheese party on! Gwyneth celebrated with lots of friends and only had a minor  meltdown when the mouse made his appearance. She ate lots of pizza, licked the icing off a big Lightning McQueen cupcake and played many games. She was a very happy birthday girl. Especially after we shooed away that pesky mouse.
Personalized gift backpacks for all Gwyneth’s buddies.

Jack and Ben playing games before pizza time.

She takes the horse ride very seriously.

My girls love Lauren and she is always such a good sport with them.

We tried to warn her about the mouse. Atleast she got this cool crown out of his visit…uh….
Annabelle, Bella, and Reagan getting their dance on.

Not at all the look of happiness. That’s the look of a little girl who does not like Chuck E Cheese, but begged for a Chuck E Cheese party. (this only lasted briefly — the mouse knew where he wasn’t wanted).
And all is right again.

Sweet little Laney

Just a few of Gwyneth’s favorite things…

later mater

Gwyneth is going through a major Cars phase. She loves the 1st movie and loves all things Cars related. She especially likes Lightning McQueen. Imagine her delight when Gus and Missi showed up with her birthday gift and it was a….wait for it………Lightning McQueen suitcase! The girl was in heaven. She opened it up, her face lit up and then she was outta there. She ran around the house dragging her new suitcase behind her.
Now, what on earth could be better than a Lighting McQueen suitcase? Ahhhh, yes – a Lightning McQueen suitcase filled with candy. Best birthday ever for Miss G? I do believe so!

A quick thank you and then she she’s off….
Now, this is a funny one. After one of our parties I told Missi in passing “if you want to make GG happy, just get her a package of plates for her birthday”. So what do you know? She did! And of course, they were a hit. Gwyneth quickly opened her plates and handed them out to all of us while playing restaurant. Practical, but rather beloved gift.

My attempt to get a picture of Gus, Missi, and Gwyneth. She is a bit distracted with Pop Rocks!

Lots of lovin’ for Miss Gwyneth.

Gwyneth rocked the Cars dress I made for her. It’s rather difficult to find Cars clothes for girls, but luckily I made one of my dress patterns work for her. She sat by my sewing machine and waited ever so patiently for her dress to be finished. Makes my heart happy.

Not to be outdone, even Gus and Missi’s card put our’s to shame. It was as big as her head….well, bigger really!

jokes

What better way to celebrate Gus’ birthday, than with a few drinks and jokes at the comedy club. Miss Angie  hung out with the girls so we could meet up with Gus, Missi, Abe, and Wendi. Oh man, we love us some jokes! It was a fun group and a great night. Oh yeah, it was still 4 days until Gus’ birthday so I guess we’ll have to celebrate again with him next week.

Oh and in case you were wondering, the picture above is the gift I made for Gus. It’s a 6 pack cooler for golfing and it was filled with Old Chub beer. Just in case you were wondering….

boulder baby

Annabelle went out for a special movie night with Auntie Chriss and Uncle Paul. They saw the  new Winnie the Pooh movie and she was treated to many, many goodies. B and I got the treat of spending an evening with  just our little G! We don’t get that one on one time often — it’s funny how different they can be when separated.
We took our little Boulder babe up to Pearl Street for pizza at Boulder Original Pizza, ice cream for dessert and then a new pair of crocs. I don’t care what anyone says — this girl rocks some Crocs!
This is just the start of the Gwyneth birthday extravaganza weekend!!

break in breck

My dear friend, Lisa and I have vowed to spend more time together….and we are sticking to it. In the past we have ventured out to Vegas, the Elton John concert, nights away downtown, etc. Now with five kids between  us just a simple cup of coffee and a few good hours to chat is all we need. We snuck away for two nights in Breckenridge and did a whole lot of nothin’! We had beers at lunch, road the mountain coaster, and did some leisurely shopping. It was simply delightful!
