girl scouts | small business badge

Annabelle’s troop asked me to host an event for the girls to earn their Small Business Ownership badge. I came up with a plan and asked Gwyneth’s troop to join as well.
My background is finance so the lesson was probably a little too heavily financially focused. I think a few little eyes started to glaze over during the discussion. All in all I think it went well though and I have to admit I was very proud of the questions that Annabelle asked. She asked about competition and pricing and knocked my socks off. I was a proud mom indeed.
The excitement returned to the meeting when they all got to paint. They each painted a mug and did a great job.

dead sea scrolls

We were lucky enough to have my mom come and visit for the week. There was lots going on and I got a few pictures on my phone….unfortunately my phone died and I had to get a new one. That means I lost all my pictures from the week.
I did manage to snap a few on my camera, but I’m still pretty bummed that the majority of the pictures of the girls with my mom are gone.
We joined Annabelle’s class for a day at the science museum. We were able to visit a few special exhibits, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Creatures of Light. We also watched a great Imax movie during our visit. I’m grateful for the day with Annabelle and my mom.

And those are all the pictures I have of my mom’s visit. So very sad, but we did have a lovely visit.

haircuts

We are always a little behind on haircuts around here. Both our little ladies are growing their hair out so trims all around. They are growing up fast and their hair is getting so long. Goodness gracious.
This girl is just legs for days…

This is the longest Annabelle’s hair has been in quite a while. She likes to wear it in a ponytail so it’s not often we get to see those golden locks down.

oh my, she is such a tween!

movie night | don’t tell mom the babysitters dead

We were greeted with snow flurries on our way into work and school today. It didn’t stick and it warmed up quickly. We arrived home this evening to sunshine and bright skies. The girls quickly did their chores and finished up homework so they could get outside and enjoy the beautiful evening. I love these Colorado spring days.
Our friend is running for the North Metro Fire Rescue Board and we had to send him a little love.
Yeah, we’re pretty gangsta around here…
These goofy girls

They rode bikes and then played basketball in the driveway until it was time for dinner. The fresh spring air is good for the soul and they were both in great moods!

After dinner I introduced the ladies to this 90’s classic. They loved it! It was just as silly as I remembered.

There was one scene were the younger brother falls off the roof while adjusting the tv antenna. Gwyneth was dumbfounded. “What the heck is a tv antenna?” Oh jeez, feeling my age here. I explained to them what it was to which Annabelle replied “oh, got it. It’s how they watched tv in the old days.” OUCH!

whimsy | there’s no place like home

After our 4 am wake up call to get Stacy and the cousins off to the airport we were a pretty tired bunch. Don’t worry we went back to bed for a bit.
After some much needed sleep Gwyneth made us some delicious orange glazed cinnamon rolls. That girls loves to bake. Annabelle slept right through breakfast and we had to wake her up around 10:30 afraid she was going to sleep the entire day away.
Yum!
Gwyneth and I signed up for a lovely mother daughter afternoon at Whimsy. The artwork was Wizard of Oz inspired which was right up her alley! It was a great excuse to have some one on one time. While we painted Annabelle and B shot hoops at home. The girls each got to do something they loved and it was a pretty wonderful day. Annabelle has lots of ideas for her mommy-daugher day!
Here’s the painting we attempted to paint…attempted is pretty accurate.
How cute is my little painting partner?
Here we go…
making progress…
We had a really nice time together although I have to admit that I prefer painting pottery. After 2 hours I grow tired of the canvas painting and start wondering what we’re going to do with two of the exact same painting. I do love, love, love my time with this girl though!
Our finished pieces. Nothing a little glitter can’t make fabulous! (Although my Dorthy’s feet are a bit mishappen…)
After our class B and Annabelle met us at Color Me Mine which is just across the street from Whimsy. B so very, very kindly put together my new patio furniture at the studio and the girls carried out all the recycling. They help me out so much and I’m so grateful.

cousins

Stacy and her girls spent the week up in Breckenridge for their spring break. It was kind of a bummer that our girls didn’t have the same spring break so we could spend more time together. I’m glad we could at least have the one day before they had to head back to California.
They drove down the hill and arrived just in time for lunch. We grabbed pizza at Echo in Erie.
I asked if they wanted to go do something fun around town and they all just wanted to play at our house. They had some wonderful cousin time and I had some really great sister time.
Enjoying brownies that Annabelle and Gwyneth made.
Silly faces
Movie and game time

kiss me kate

I really do love the theater. I can go see anything and I drag my family along with me. Well, I drag the girls. B agrees to join us for some of the shows. About half. The girls seem to enjoy it as much as I do…or at the very least they are getting some great acting experience because it really seems like they like it too.
Tonight we ventured up north to the Candlelight Theater to see Kiss Me Kate. I love when I don’t know much about the show before going. That was the case tonight and I was excited to read it was set in the 1940’s and based on a production of Taming of the Shrew.
Gwyneth and I read Taming of the Shrew together this summer. I have mixed feelings about that story. I appreciate the story but don’t love the ending. I had to get past that for the show though and really enjoyed this production.
How cute are these little ladies? They clean up pretty well!
We had great seats. Front row!
This girl has so much sass, but she sure is cute. I’m going to be happy that she put on a dress for me and didn’t even complain about it.

roller skating

The girls and I usually paint together on Wednesday while B is waiting for customer pick ups. This week the girls were invited to go roller skating with Sarah and didn’t want to miss the fun.  Sarah’s church rents out the entire roller rink and they nearly had the place to themselves.
Annabelle’s foot is doing so much better and she is finally out of the boot. It was so nice to see her out there having some fun and being her good ol’, active, sporty self again.
Connie snapped this photo of Gwyneth and Sarah. We had a really lovely time catching up while the girls skated. I just wish I wouldn’t have talked so much and grabbed a few pictures myself.

decades day

Today was decades day at school and the girls rocked it!
They got to pick the fashion from whatever decade they wanted. They did some research at school with their teachers and classes and we talked a bit about it at home. I was pushing for flappers and poodle skirts because we had some old Halloween costumes, but these girls had their minds made up already.
Gwyneth was set on the radical 80’s. From the lace gloves to the legwarmers this girl knew exactly how she wanted to rock this look. She did a pretty great job putting this outfit together.

Annabelle was all about peace, love, and flower power. She too was pretty passionate about what she wanted to wear. I think she made a pretty groovy hippie!

music festival

Annabelle spent two very long days practicing for the music festival this weekend. She spent nearly 10 hours a day between the drive up and back and the practices. She joined a group of about 300 kids who sang, played handbells, and instruments for the show on Saturday.
Ella joined us for the evening performance because….well, that’s what these girls do. They are the best of sweet friends and look for any opportunity to hang out together.
Annabelle did a great job and sang her little heart out. Whenever she made eye contact with me I would make a goofy face at her and she would crack up. She pretended like it was embarrassing, but I know she loved it…right?
I can’t believe I didn’t get a picture of Annabelle but she’s in this crowd if you can find her.
