oliver!

The girls and I scooted up to the Candlight for a night of Theater. B really truly dislikes the food at this theater and it seems to almost make him angry. A bad meal can definitely ruin his night. I don’t love the food, but I feel like he always gets the worst dish. The meal is worth it to me to watch a fun show, but no so much for him. I decided to give him a break and no longer torture him. I purchased season tickets for just the girls and me.

Naturally, our first show with out him the food was all fresh and quite good. We saw the show Oliver!.  Gwyneth thought it was a little dark. Annabelle said it was one of her all-time favorites. I really enjoyed it and although I’ve never seen the movie I was familiar with quite a few of the songs. It definitely ranks high on our list of favorite shows and best nights of food…..and of course, it was the one show that B didn’t go with us. Isn’t that how life just seems to work out sometimes???

creating bunny treats

Gwyneth’s troop met at our house this evening and made bunny treats for the local bunny rescue. What a mess!!! Holy smokes there were cheerios and….just a mess everywhere. Yikes!

The girls had a good time, earned a badge, and decided how to spend their cookie money.

avalanche vs devils

It was a great day for some hockey. B and I always have been a bit unconventional on St Patty’s day. For the past few years (almost 20) we’ve gone for Mexican food. It’s always been our little joke to avoid the green beers and big crowds. We’re just fine with tacos and margaritas and not fighting for a spot at the bar, thank you very much.

This year we opted for an Avs game. Our whole family roots for the home team and loves the sport…although Gwyneth loves it the most.

The Avalanche pulled off the win!

After the game we had a little time for some people watching. The girls requested a sunny seat on the Ted’s patio. We even managed to sneak in a little green. 😉

sewing prep

Gwyneth loves sewing. She absolutely loves it! Her teacher, Bella offered a spring session and we jumped at the opportunity to sign her up.
Her classes are for 3 hours on Sundays for the next four weeks. She signed up with 3 other friends. Two will be making skirts and two making leggings. Gwyneth and her BFF, Ella, are making leggings and are excited to wear them to dance class together.
Bella took all the girls shopping to purchase their patterns and fabrics.

The girls all came back to our house for a late lunch and some afternoon fun.

celebrating with friends

The Tendlers invited us over for a celebration dinner for B’s birthday. They had just returned from a cruise and we were just back from San Antonio. We had lots of travel stories to share! We were so excited to share travel adventures and they may have even convinced me that I might want to go on a cruise.
We enjoyed delicious homemade pizza right from the grill. Yum, yum, yum!
After dinner we enjoyed homemade birthday cake and celebrate B’s birthday.
Such great friends spoiling our little family!
Making a wish! Ha!
Sweet friends

snow day

Tuesday evening while running errands and dropping children off at dance…IN MY TSHIRT and FLIP FLOPS…I received an email that school would be cancelled the next day. With the sun shining, I checked out the local news and over 160 schools had already announced closures for the following day. I kinda laughed to myself and thought it was some crazy Colorado nonsense.
We woke up the next morning to find rain and wind. I surely didn’t think it was worthy of cancelling the school day. Then the rain turned to snow and the temperatures really dropped and the winds really picked up. It was soon white out conditions. All 3 of my studios closed and we settled in for the “bomb cyclone”.
We did a whole lot of baking and reading and movie watching. We drank hot chocolate. We made root beer floats. It was fun to see the snow piling up outside. The girls went out to play in it while B shoveled.
We ended up with two snow days and then just like that the sun was back out, roads were clear, and the snow was melting. You gotta love Colorado!

san antonio • final pool day

Our final day was all about relaxing and soaking up the sun. Gwyneth liked the slides, while Annabelle prefered the larger pool. They both loved the lazy river. I joined them for a while and then finished up a book and watched them float by. I’m not sure I could have asked for a more relaxing vacation with this crew of mine.
Love that these little ladies pick out matching swim suits.
testing the waters…
A little chilly when you first hop in! Ha!
the view from our room
Not as thrilled about getting ready for dinner.
Just kidding, she was just annoyed that I was taking pictures.
And then it was time to say goodbye. We had to pack up and head home and leave behind all that beautiful sunshine. This trip, we have all decided will go down in the books as one of our favorites!

san antonio • river walk

Our plan for the trip was mostly just relaxing at the pool but we did decide to leave the resort and check out a few local attractions.
You can’t to San Antonio and not visit the Alamo.
Annabelle did her research on the car ride over and filled Gwyneth in on the significance of the Alamo. She was so cute about taking pictures and sharing them with her school friends.
We walked along the Riverwalk which is just beautiful and brought back lots of fun memories of a trip B and I took with friends many, many years ago.
Again, our timing for spring break was perfect (not that we can take credit for it, but we are sure are grateful). The Riverwalk was busy but not overflowing. We were able to find seats on a patio and enjoy some fajitas and sunshine.
No one ended up in the river but there sure was a lot of talk about pushing people in…you know, because that’s what our family does.
After lunch the girls decided they had enough sight seeing and were ready to get back in that pool. We high-tailed it back to the resort, got back in swim suits and spent the rest of the day enjoying the water and sunshine.

san antonio • pool day

We received an email that our flight time was changed for our trip to San Antonio. The flight was originally scheduled at 3 pm and was moved to 5:30 AM. Oh boy! That was early!! We all tried our best to get to bed early the night before, but Annabelle and I are night owls. We did get a little sleep though and were all up and and ready for the adventure at 3 am!
We arrived in San Antonio by 8:45 am! We grabbed some Starbucks and bagels and waited for the pool to open.
We stayed at the JW Marriott Resort and were all so pleased when we arrived. The hotel is beautiful with several restaurants and the most amazing pool. There were also activities planned through out the day for kids and families including slime making. The girls were all over that one.
We grabbed a quick lunch at the hotel restaurant, Cibolo Moon. The food was amazing and it became our go to food stop for the rest of our trip.
The skies were a bit overcast, but the temperature was perfect. High 70’s with heated pools. The girls’ spring break proved to fall at a perfect time. Everyone was else was still in school! They had the pool to themselves for most of the morning. A few other families (maybe 5 total!) joined us in the afternoon/evening. The girls took full advantage and explored all the pools, lazy rivers, and slides.
The pool side bartenders told us the hotel was booked with 900 additional guests the following week. Wow! We sure got lucky with our timing.
This just makes my heart incredibly happy.
After our early morning start we opted for an early dinner at the hotel sports bar, High Velocity. It was great for watching the Avalanche game, but not so great for food. Typical bar and grill choices, not bad but not our favorite.
We spent a quiet night enjoying the beautiful weather, watching some games and relaxing. It was a pretty perfect start to the trip.

movie • How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Our days have been quiet this spring break. I haven’t planned much because we still have the normal evening activities. The girls are still going to dance and math as normal. No one else is on spring break.
We snuck out to the movies today to see How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. It was the 3rd and final movie in the series. I honestly don’t remember seeing the 2nd one, but this last one was really cute and a nice ending to the series. I stayed awake and that is saying a whole lot for me and kids movies!
