movie • How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Our days have been quiet this spring break. I haven’t planned much because we still have the normal evening activities. The girls are still going to dance and math as normal. No one else is on spring break.
We snuck out to the movies today to see How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. It was the 3rd and final movie in the series. I honestly don’t remember seeing the 2nd one, but this last one was really cute and a nice ending to the series. I stayed awake and that is saying a whole lot for me and kids movies!

movie | the green book

This time of year I always get really excited about movies. Once that list of Academy Award nominations gets announced I go on a bit of a movie frenzy. I love the awards show and I want to see as many movies as possible beforehand so I can root for my favs. I’ve started watching the ones that are available for streaming at home, but some of those movies are still only available at the theaters.
I met up with my friend, Connie today for a $5 Tuesday flick. I’ve been so eager to see Green Book and it did not disappoint. I loved this movie. What a story! I’m also a sucka for based on a true story
For a Tuesday afternoon the theater was FULL. Not an empty seat…well, the front row was open, but come on…not an empty enjoyable seat. I also think our presence brought the average age in the theater down by at least 30 years! I was pretty shocked and expected to have the theater to ourselves, but who doesn’t love a good $5 movie deal?!
The best part was escaping with a dear friend for a few hours in the middle of the day. I know there was quite a bit of finagling done on both ends to make it work out and that is beyond appreciated.

wreck it ralph 2 and westminster holiday party

The girls each had a friend join us for a movie this morning. We went to see Wreck It Ralph 2, which I was actually pretty excited about because I thought the first one was really cute. About 10 minutes in I feel asleep! Oh my! I don’t know if it was a reflection of the movie or the fact that this time of year is just exhausting. I don’t think I slept long, but I did get a nice little nap out of it.

B opted out of the movie to get some work done, but met up with us for lunch afterwards. We enjoyed PF Changs which is right next door to the theater. It’s Gwyneth’s favorite and Annabelle tolerates it. Annabelle doesn’t really love asian food, which is kind of a bummer because it’s a fam favorite for the rest of us.

The girls enjoyed time with their friends and had a pretty low key afternoon.

We finished off the evening with a holiday dinner celebrating my Westminster studio staff. We met up at 3 Margaritas which was easy and fun. It was great to get everyone together, although we had two employees miss out because of finals. I figured it was pretty promising that so many were able to join us at this hectic time of year.1

movie | instant family

We have a crazy, busy week ahead of us and instead of laying low like most people would I decided we better have as much fun as possible before the madness arrives.
What’s better than Mexican food and a movie? Nothing. There is nothing better.
We tried out a new place by the theater called El Tapatio. It was pretty darn good. Soggy tacos but the burritos, enchiladas, and tostadas were a hit.
We went to see Instant Family and it was a hit for all of us. B even stayed awake and that is really saying something. It was funny and sweet and a good family movie.
These goofy girls, being super goofy before the movie.

movie night | first man

Oh boy, we sugar crashed today! I’m not a big sweets fan, but can’t seem to pass up a few pieces of candy on Halloween. We were all riding the Halloween high last night and then the low hit this morning and swept us away to Grumpy-town.
We all went about our business and as the work day was coming to a close I texted B and asked for a night out. You’d think we’d all want to just be lazy and lay around after a busy night, but no. We all agreed that we needed to get out together and avoid the draw of the candy buckets and our comfy couches. We decided to head to the movies…
Our family has entered new terrain for movie going. We still see our share of the animated flicks, but we’re moving into more live-action movies these days. It really opens up what movies we can experience together. I’ve already got the girls hooked on the Jurassic Park series, much to their father’s dismay.
Tonight we saw First Man which received mixed reviews from our family. I’ve always had a fascination with the American space program and I loved this movie. Annabelle enjoyed it too. Gwyneth found it a little scary and B found it a tad boring. I’d recommend seeing it in a theater where it’s loud and intense!

movie | hotel transylvania 3

Gwyneth has had the most fun this week at art camp. The camp is in Boulder, about 20 minutes from our house, but it was well worth it to see her creations and hear her stories from the camp. She has made new friends and had the best time. I’m so glad we were able to find this opportunity for her.
I’m loving the $5 Tuesdays at AMC. It is a great price for new release movies and there are lots of movies out that we want to see this summer.  Today we went to see Hotel Transylvania 3 and I think it was pretty funny….I’m not exactly sure because I fell asleep halfway through. Oops! At least it was a cheap nap.

happy birthday nora and skycraper

I made my first attempt at bisquits and gravy today. It’s pretty well established that I’m not the best cook in this house, but I wanted to give it a try because it’s a family favorite. It may be one of the best comfort foods around and my first attempt was pretty successful. Yum, yum, yum!

Gwyneth joined friends for a pool party this morning. The party was for her buddy, Nora, and she celebrated with friends from her old school. These girls fell right back in place as if no time at all had passed. Gwyneth was all smiles and had a blast with her friends.
We shared a sitter for the night with the Tendlers. The girls played at our house while we joined Mitch and Connie for dinner at Village Tavern. We went to see the movie, Skyscraper also and it was awesome! I have a pretty big fear of heights so I held my breath through most of the movie. It was worth it thought and I can’t wait for it to be available on streaming so I can watch it again with Annabelle.

greek fest

I really enjoy the Greek Festival. Not sure that the rest of my family likes it all that much, but I drag them along. This year was cooler than prior years and it was easier to find tables to enjoy our festival food. Festival food is quite possibly the best food there is. 🙂 We enjoyed so many different tasty dishes. The music, the food, the beer…what’s not to love about festivals?!
My favs: gyro and beer Yum, yum, yum
Annabelle was adventurous and tried lots of different things.
Greek donuts with honey and nuts
Greek fries. They had a lot of black pepper. Very tasty!
Lots of great tents to shop
Inside the temple
The girls had 2 coupons left to burn and stumbled across a tent selling watermelon. One coupon each was a steal and they were thrilled. They loved watermelon and gobbled these up!
It started to rain just as we were heading out. Perfect timing.
The girls and I took YaYa to see Incredibles 2.
I have never seen the first one but I got caught up pretty quick. It was a cute movie and Gwyneth giggled her way through it.

movie and water balloon fight

I had so much fun last week sneaking out to the movies with my friends that I did it again today. AMC has a $5 Tuesday offer, so we took advantage and saw Life of the Party. I was joined by my friend, Connie, and it was a such a wonderful excursion in the middle of the day. The movie was ridiculous and funny and had several laugh out loud moments. It was a perfect break in the middle of a hectic day.
Gwyneth’s class earned a water balloon fight and I was looking forward to watching that madness. I ran home to get a few work messages sent and then went over to the school….just in time to miss the water balloon fight. I was 4 minutes late and the balloons were already gone. They had several hundred balloons and made their way through them very quickly. I was bummed to miss the fight, but still had a good laugh watching them splash around in the buckets of water. They were soaked!
Best class shot I could get:
Let the photo bombs begin:
Gwyneth was so fortunate to be in a class with some really great kids this year and made some wonderful friendships.
