tea with annabelle and billera celebration

Annabelle and I had a special afternoon planned with her girl scout troop. We attended a mother daughter tea party at the Huckleberry. They do a simple and casual afternoon tea with tasty tea cakes, scones, and sandwiches.
Before setting off Annabelle asked me to give her some “beachy waves” in her hair. It was my first attempt with a new curling gadget we purchased. It took a few tries and there’s room for improvement, but I thought she looked fabulous! Very beachy indeed! She was full of confidence with that head full of curls.
Off to brunch we go!
In addition to meeting the ladies from girl scouts, we ran into a friend from Ananbelle’s class and our former neighbors. Who knew The Huckleberry was the place to be on a Saturday afternoon?!

After tea, we headed over to meet up with Gwyneth. She spent the afternoon with her friend Ruby. We joined up with the Billera’s and many friends to celebrate Peter’s election win. He is now on the North Metro Fire Rescue Board. We are very happy for him and were thrilled to celebrate his accomplishment!

girl scouts | tea party with gwyneth

This afternoon we met with Gwyneth’s troop for our final meeting. We have been going strong for the past five years and I feel so fortunate to have been the troop leader. We’ve gone from kindergarten to fourth grade and oh my how these girls have grown.
Schedules have become quite full and more demanding. It has become difficult to find times for us all to meet up. We ended the year with bang, for the girls who could attend with a tea party in Boulder. It was a wonderful ending to a great year with these gals!
Gwyneth LOVES to get dressed up. She is so very, very fancy. She found this dress weeks ago and had to have it for the tea party. She’s been counting down the days until she was able to wear it.
The girls looked so lovely for tea!
The Boulder Tea House is gorgeous! The girls were in awe of the beautifully decorated ceilings.
time for tea
amuse bouche | phyllo dough with cinnamon apples and brie. yum, yum, yum!
our tray of treats
We had one girl cancel and since we had to prepay for the event Annabelle agreed to join us.
I’d say the treats were a hit…
so much cake, so little time…
being this fancy is hard work!
After tea we explored the gardens. It was a beautiful day and these girls were good sports when I asked to snap a few more pictures.
I was feeling nostalgic when I got home and had to go back and find the pictures from the day these little ladies became Daisies. My goodness so much has changed!

girl scouts | small business badge

Annabelle’s troop asked me to host an event for the girls to earn their Small Business Ownership badge. I came up with a plan and asked Gwyneth’s troop to join as well.
My background is finance so the lesson was probably a little too heavily financially focused. I think a few little eyes started to glaze over during the discussion. All in all I think it went well though and I have to admit I was very proud of the questions that Annabelle asked. She asked about competition and pricing and knocked my socks off. I was a proud mom indeed.
The excitement returned to the meeting when they all got to paint. They each painted a mug and did a great job.

girl scouts | escape room

Annabelle’s troop met up Sunday afternoon at Theme Escape. They earned their Detective Badges in the escape room. While the girls worked their way through the clues the moms walked across the street for a margarita. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and catch up with a group of ladies I have known for so long but don’t get many opportunities to see.
The girls did not quite make it out of the escape room in the time allotted. When I asked if Annabelle if she had fun anyway she said “NOPE! I hate those rooms. I felt so claustrophobic!”. Ooops! I’m proud of that girl for doing something outside her comfort zone. She never complained – she was laughing about it on the drive home as she was telling me how much she hated it. She shared stories about each puzzle they had to complete and how she screamed and everyone was being silly. She had some pretty fun tales so I’m not sure she hated it quite as much as she thought. Gwyneth asked to plan a family day to check it out but Annabelle said “no way!”.

girl scouts | mall scavenger hunt

Gwyneth has been really excited for this Girl Scout meeting. We did a scavenger hunt around the mall and the girls had to “buy” gifts on a budget. They did an amazing job and were so sweet together. I really enjoy meeting with these little ladies. They are a truly lovely group.
The prom dresses are out and Gwyneth had to check them out as we were leaving. This girl is so very, very fancy.

empty quiver

Gwyneth is still having a blast with Girl Scouts. She was pretty excited with this month’s meeting. We visited the Empty Quiver for archery lessons. It was such a fun meeting tonight as many siblings and moms joined in on the fun. I loved having everyone get involved. I’m quick to hide behind my camera, but it was great to set the camera down and pick up a bow with my little ladies. I think I even impressed those girls of mine by hitting THREE bulls eyes.
The girls have requested a family night here. It sure would be fun to bring B along and see what he can do! We’re a competitive little crew…ha!

parade of lights

Both girls’ troops participate in the Parade of Lights in Louisville.
Wow! Just wow, what a night. I’m admitting to be a full-on drama queen over here, but my goodness the crowds! There were so many people. It’s a tiny little town and the route was only 3/4 of a mile. I get super anxious in these situations and a few profanities (ok, maybe a few is being conservative) flew from my mouth as we tried to find parking. The girls just giggled and were so excited to see their friends. They didn’t mind the madness one bit.
The weather was perfect. Just a bit chilly but bearable and we didn’t have to really bundle up too much. Gwyneth’s troop chose elf ears while Ananbelle’s troop chose reindeer antlers. They all had their lights on and they lit up the night.
Not all the girls were able to make it and the troops are getting smaller and smaller, but I sure do enjoy spending time with these little ladies. It has become more than manageable – it has become quite lovely and we are able to do such fun, memorable things with these smaller little troops.
Happy Parade of Lights Ladies!

girl scouts | first aid and ambulance tour

We had a joint meeting with both girls’ troops tonight and we had a very special guest. A medic from the Rocky Mountain Children’s hospital arrived to teach the girls CPR and to let them tour the ambulance. It was a pretty great meeting and the girls were thrilled to be able to climb inside the ambulance.

pumpkin patch

We spent a spooky night at the pumpkin patch. We were joined by a few girls from Gwyneth’s girl scout troop and Annabelle’s friend, Molly and her family.
I must admit I planned this little outing and it was a bit of a fail. It got dark very early which made it really hard for the kids to find great pumpkins. I felt silly for the planning fail, but no one complained and the girls all seemed to have a great time. My girls kept talking about how cool and creepy it was to be there at night.
Spooooky!
