costume

Dance recital season is soon to be upon us. The costumes are arriving and I’m pretty sure this is the reason the girls go to dance. Is it really about the dance? Probably not. It’s about the costumes and these girls LOVE to dress up.

Annabelle received the costume for her tap routine tonight. She couldn’t wait to get it home and try it on again and then wear it the rest of the night. I think she likes it.

Gwyneth got bored with Annabelle’s costume show and decided she needed an “Elsa braid” so she taught herself to braid her own hair. What the what? Yeah, she does stuff like this. She potty trained herself, taught herself to tie her own shoes and how to tell time, she can divide fractions better than her Dad and I combined, so naturally she taught herself to do a “Frozen” braid while she was bored. I’m not trying to brag….I’m simply saying I really struggle to braid my own hair and she’s five. I want to be proud, but I’m busy trying to teach myself to braid my hair.

lunch surprise

After volunteering today Gwyneth convinced me to stick around for lunch. She is quite persuasive. I have loved watching this little gal grow as a kindergartener and make such great friends. Feeling very lucky (and doing my best to not cry that my baby is going to soon be a 1st grader – gasp!).

I didn’t pack Annabelle’s lunch this morning. Hot lunch was grilled cheese and I thought surely she could just get that and not make a fuss. She may have. Maybe? I could have had lunch with her and her friends and she would have been happy, and a bit of show off, and made me laugh. But she was probably going to be hungry this afternoon because she wouldn’t eat much.

Gwyneth loves her grilled cheese, but Annabelle does not and today I decided to not be that grouchy mom that I can be when I get busy and feel like I’m torn in so many directions. Today I waited for Annabelle outside the cafeteria and told her to follow me. I signed her out and off we headed to Jack N The Box (her choice. Weird?). Good to know going out for lunch is not  an absence — it’s an excused out of school activity.

She was all smiles and shock and I swear she nearly cried. I asked her why and she said “when I saw you without my lunch box I thought lunch would be gross, but today is the best lunch ever”. I also know that I am the “most awesomest mom EVER”. I know it’s true because she told me so.

Who knew? I always thought someday…maybe, someday…although we are so very similar and will probably fight constantly in the years to come….she would always know how much I really love her and we would be really, really close. I could have just bought her Jack N The Box. Well Played!

“Don’t worry, Daddy. I know you hate fast food, but this was made to order”. (Whatever, she thinks I’m cool today….we’ll make better choices tomorrow.)

make up

Annabelle and B have a found a new bond: Chicken Wings!!

They love ’em. We travel about town and across the state in search of the best chicken wings. They critique them and then decide the best are still the ones that B makes at home (although the ones in Breck put up a good fight). They are not giving up on their quest to find THE ALL TIME BEST WINGS so shout out your favorites if you’ve got them.

Gwyneth is actually our little foodie and has a pretty great palette. She likes all the best, but hasn’t committed to the wing challenge. She’s a little sensitive and doesn’t like very spicey food. While B and Annabelle are eating chicken wings she is on the search for the best grilled cheese….which not surprisingly is also B’s. I don’t know why we bother going out anymore.

Tonight we went to the Conley’s house for dinner. We got to see their new house, which looks great.

The girls had a fabulous time playing with their friends and applying a fabulous coat of make-up. A LOT of make up. So, this may or may not be my fault. No, no it is in fact completely and totally my fault. I let the girls pick out a make up kit for Bella’s birthday. And I swear I enclosed a gift receipt. Unfortunately Amy did not find said receipt so Bella kept the make up. I thought we would get pay back for their next birthdays, which is probably true, but it appears this payback is going to be the gift that just keeps on giving…..

 Gorgeous!

yaya

YaYa got in late last night and the girls were so excited to see her. She walked them to the bus stop and was waiting for them when they got home. Annabelle had dancing school tonight and she was none to be pleased that Gwyneth was able to have more YaYa time than her.

earth day

Annabelle celebrated birthday book club at school today (the joys of a summer birthday). She donated to the library and they put her picture in a new book so every time someone checks out the book they will see her little face. She was pretty darn happy it was a Barbie book and she got to be the first person to check it out.

For Earth Day the Gwyneth’s daisy troop met our house to plant herb gardens. They also planted Daisies in recycled plastic water bottles. I’m really glad the weather agreed with us because this would have been a really messy meeting in my kitchen!!

frozen gift

B’s parents gave the girls a gift card to Toys R Us for Easter. They wanted something “Frozen” and let me tell ya, there is practically nothing Frozen left on the shelves. There was one thing. One Frozen item. And of course it was $20 more than their gift certificates combined. Oye! I should have said no, but I knew they would actually play with this gift and I wanted to make the Grandparents look good so Anna, Olaf and the sled they received.

Annabelle showing off her new outfit from her younger cousin, Reagan. She passes her clothes down to our girls even though she’s four months younger than Annabelle. It sure will be nice if that continues through high school….although Gwyneth is quickly on her way to approaching eight feet tall so I’m not sure we can count on it.

And the Easter gift.

easter pictures

The girls had new pictures taken in their Easter dresses. They chose hats and gloves for the occasion as well. This definitely remind me of my childhood — we always had the little hats.
Love the new pictures.
Happy Easter!

library

We stocked up on Easter books at the library today and the girls attending a class about camping. Gwyneth found a new computer game, Annabelle found a new bunny book and I brought home a full basket of new books. All is good.

neighborhood hunt

We’ve missed our neighborhood Easter egg hunt the past two years, but we finally made it this year. The girls saw friends and gathered lots of eggs. I remember it being quite crazy the last time we went, but this year it seemed far less mad.

My how times have changed. I promised I would never make them sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap, but now they ask for it. Times have definitely changed.
