girl scout camp, crackpots, whimsy

Annabelle went to her first girl scout camp and absolutely loved it. She was joined by four other girls in her troop. I was nervous about this one because it was quite outdoorsy and I wasn’t sure how she would feel about that. They hiked, cooked for themselves over an open fire, did a lot of crafts and the last night they had a sleepover. She said it was her favorite camp all summer.

While Annabelle was off at Girl Scout camp, Gwyneth attended Animals Galore pottery camp at Crackpots. This is right up her alley and she was pretty darn happy.

When you attend a camp at Crackpots you get a free studio fee for yourself and a friend to come in and paint. Gwyneth talked me in to an extra afternoon of painting. I painted an “M” and she painted a fabulous GG penguin.
The last night of camp involved a sleepover. Annabelle was so excited to stay and would’t have missed it. They had to stay in the rec building because the fairgrounds were flooded. She didn’t care at all. Her and her buddy, Morgan shared a full size air mattress and she had some great stories to share from the night. I’m so proud of her for stepping out of her element and going for it….and loving it!
Annabelle gave her friend Julia a gift card to Whimsy for her birthday. They spent the morning painting Minions.
Gwyneth gave Essy a gift card for her birthday too. These two have spent more time together this summer and they are really funny. I get such a kick out of them. Hard to believe they have known each other since pre-school days.

fashion, fairy, and fireworks

Another week of camps: Annabelle and her friend Sofia attended Gaga for Fashion Camp and Gwyneth attended Storybook Art Camp. The classes were across the hall from each other which meant far less driving for me, but still a much needed break for them. (they spend A LOT of time together)
Tuesday Annabelle spent the morning at the pool with Sofia while Gwyneth attended the Tinkerbell Tea Party at the kitchen. (Annabelle stuck around for a quick photo op…she is cool, but not too cool for Tinkerbell. C’mon.)
Gwyneth’s dear friend Ella joined her for the fun.
How cute is this group, really???
Their best Tinkerbell sass faces
Annabelle’s girl scout friends joined us to make sit upons for camp next week.
Annabelle and Olivia are oh so crafty. Olivia stayed for a sleepover too and they crafted all night.

The next morning we took a little swim break with the Minick’s. We had to leave early to go to camp, so we arrived early and we had the pool all to ourselves. The only bummer is that the slides don’t go on until much later, but we still had a peaceful, fun morning.

This has to be the cutest picture ever taken….look how sweet Annabelle and Ethan are together. If not the cutest, come on, at least top 10. They are flippin’ adorable.

Annabelle and Sofia had their fashion show today and they ROCKED it!

Gwneth showed us some of her new art techniques

On the 3rd, Ruby joined Gwyneth for a sleepover. While we waited for fireworks they had an epic water balloon fight. They didn’t even wait to put on swimsuits. It was madness and giggling and water everywhere. No one was safe, so naturally I watched most of the battle from inside!

For the 4th we headed downtown to meet friends for fireworks. We started our adventure at Steubens which is still one of my favorite restaurants. The food is good and the atmosphere is fun and well, they have bacon peppercorn bloody marys. Yeah, that’s right. Enough said.
Doin’ some day drinkin’ at Steubens

We met friends at the Outlaws game. I know very little about lacrosse and even though I’ve been to a few games now, I still know very little. What I do know is that the fireworks show at Mile High is amazing. One of the best I’ve ever seen. If I have my way, you’ll find us here again next year.

We turned our trip to the Outlaws game into a small staycation downtown. Our first night we stayed at the Sheraton downtown, which is not my favorite hotel, but they do have a great rooftop pool. These girls definitely look like they could use a little R&R, huh?
Life is rough for this little lady

Never quite checked out (see that phone in his hand….) but he been assigned guard duty by the girls and he is starting to look more and more relaxed.

We grabbed lunch at the Mellow Mushroom, B’s favorite and then checked in to The Westin for a second night downtown. The hotel was very helpful because we had tickets to see Wicked. We saved ourselves a trip home and back and we were able to walk to the show.

I enjoyed our second hotel much better. Better room, better location. Not a better pool though. The rooftop pool had great views but it was small and honestly kind of lame. The girls didn’t really care though. It was a pool on the roof. Yeah, life could be much worse.

Having a little Pre-Wicked fun at The Corner Office. These girls can sure clean up nice.

The Corner Office is our pre-theater tradition. They have the best kids mac and cheese and cotton candy for dessert. Did I mention the fabulous dirty martinis? Well, those are pretty amazing too.

Gwyneth sharing her cotton candy. I’m the lone family member who doesn’t like cotton candy. It’s a weird texture. All sugar, just dissolving away. Gross. Don’t cry for me, I just ordered another martini.

 Wicked is right!
 The popcorn never lies.
I worried that Gwyneth would be scared of the show, but she absolutely loved it. Perhaps a little jumpy, but come on those flying monkeys are creepy. She asked so many questions afterwards and wanted more, more, more. This is Annabelle’s second time seeing the show and so continues our theater quest. I can only imagine how many shows we will see together before they head to college. Maybe they will grow tired of it? Maybe not? I really hope not.

happy birthday: annabelle is 8!

Miss Annabelle is 8! She loves computers, gum, swimming, movies, Full House, all things sweet, gymnastics, dancing, clothes, shoes, accessories, make up and music. She is full of sass and has a contagious laugh. She has a wicked sense of humor and takes nothin’ from nobody. She is smart, strong, brave, and beautiful. I’m so grateful to be her mom.  Her future is sure to be bright….and glittery and perfectly pink.
Happy birthday 8 year old!
Naturally, she picked out all her own decorations. The more the better.
She requested lunch at Gunther Toody’s…simply so she could have a cherry coke.
Ready to do the birthday twist. I should point out that she didn’t really want them to sing to her nor does she like the food. She just wanted a cherry coke. Such sacrifices for the things we love.
The entire party theme revolved around this cake.
Not only was it super cute, it was lemon and raspberry filled which are Annabelle’s favorites.
Annabelle was joined by 13 friends for a pool party and sleepover. Let me tell ya the key to a success sleepover —  2 1/2 hours of swimming!
Ella joined in on the fun too. Annabelle really likes Ella, but something tells me she may have been trying to keep her little sister distracted during her party…well, played Annabelle, well played.
Annabelle and Olivia choreographed a synchronized swimming show for us.
The beautiful birthday babe!
Cake time!
Decorating sleep shirts
Time for bed!
They were out by 10:30. Remember, lots of swimming!

fathers day, art and gymnastics camp, and my birthday

Father’s day is always a little crazy at our house because it’s the same weekend as the girls’ dance recital. We love B so much and we’re so appreciative of everything he does for our family. He’s a great dad and the girls could not be more lucky to have him. Everyone is a little tired on Father’s day, but we hope he has a great day and feels the love!
This year we had lunch at Mellow Mushroom and then melted at the Rockies game. Boy, oh boy was it hot. It was 98 degrees but we were right on the field with no shade. That is definite dippin’ dots weather!

The girls have been begging to see Inside Out. It was a really cute movie. It did not disappoint.

Annabelle flipped and tumbled her way through gymnastics camp this week.

She joined me for a delicious birthday lunch at Super Mini Walnut Cafe.

June birthday girls:

My dad and Melissa arrived the day after my birthday to celebrate with us. They came bearing lots of gifts and we had a great evening with friends and family at Morton’s.

Before heading to dinner we stopped to check out the updated Union Station. The girls opened a few birthday gifts including the Jelly Bean Beanboozled….which is basically a game of chance between yummy flavored jelly beans and horrible jelly beans. The bad ones include barf, boogers, and skunk. We had entirely too much fun with that game!

Dinner at Morton’s with  my gals (Annabelle is our fabulous photog).
The guys
While Annabelle did gymnastics this week, Gwyneth spent the week with Essy and Addi downtown at the art museum. Essy’s mom was amazing and took them downtown everyday. They had so many amazing adventures. I’m so grateful that she was able to have this experience.
Their arrival at the Art Museum:

At the Judicial Center:

She looks pretty comfy (and stinkin’ cute) on that bench:

Touring the capital:

The final day of camp Annabelle and I went downtown to see Gwyneth’s art show. Annabelle took a moment to enjoy the photography and I adore this picture of her.

The participants in the Empress and the Three Little Mice art camp.

So. Stinkin. Adorable.

After camp we joined Eleanor, Clara, and Ethan for a birthday celebration. Both our hubbies were working so we toasted with a glass of vino and the girls enjoyed cupcakes. Such good friends. They even gave Annabelle her first copy of Anne of Green Gables which is one of my favs. I hope she lets me read it with her and even more, I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

happy little chocolate faced friends!

american girls, ariel, and dance recital

We had the girliest of weeks!! I know B loves having daughters, but after this week he may need some baseball and beer and male bonding. So much glitter and dolls and tutus. He’s such a good dad and I found the week positively delightful.
We kicked off the week with American Girl Doll camp at the Kitchen. This event was all Gwyneth’s idea and she has been counting down. We had a great turnout and it was blast.
Gwyneth’s dear friend, Ella joined her.
Annabelle’s dear friend, Olivia joined her.
American Girl doll hair salon:
mini root beer floats: yum!
To keep these ladies entertained, clean, and out of trouble before dance rehearsal, we spent the morning at the aquarium.

Greatest photobomb. They had no idea what was behind and the jump when they turned around to find the stingrays was fabulous.

They are not allowed to have visible temporary tattoos for recital so they got creative.

Lunch at the aquarium:

All Annabelle wanted was soup….and a giant bowl of soup, she got:

Who doesn’t love a princess? We had our first visit to the kitchen today from Ariel. We decorated aprons, sang songs, Ariel read a story, the girls danced, we ate lunch, and decorated cookies. I’m glad my girls still love princesses and we’re looking forward to our next visit from Tinkerbell.
Finally, dance recital!!
Annabelle had 5 dances and was in both finales. Gwyneth had 4 dances. They both danced beautifully and rocked their hip hop routines. I’m so proud of them. Its so much work and practice leading up to the recital. They absolutely love the costumes and Annabelle LOVES the make up. The entire production is quite popular at our house.
So proud of my beautiful ballerinas.

crackpots

Hanna rode with me to take the girls to camp this morning. We had a little time to spare before I dropped her off at friends or a playdate so whatever could we do? Oh yes, donuts!
The girls attended camp at Crackpots this week. It was a short day of camp, but they were able to do a lot of creating. They started the week with clay sculpting. The made sunflower bowls out of clay and were pretty proud of themselves. I can’t wait to see their finished art work.
We hosted a Jr. Chopped Champions camp at the Kitchen.
The kids broke off in to 2 teams and each worked with a Chef to develop a delicious menu featuring secret ingredients. It’s pretty amazing what they came up with for swedish fish!
At camp the girls learned glass fusing. They love it!
Gwyneth had her in-class dress rehearsals and graduation from her mini-master dance classes.
oh my, these two!
They have been in the same class for the past three years and could not possibly be any cuter together.
Today at camp, the girls painted pictures. Tomorrow, the last day, they put all the techniques together in one art project. They had a lot of fun at this camp, but Gwyneth has declared it the best ever.
One more day of in-class dress rehearsals
The girls helped me host a Little Cooks and Books session at the Kitchen.
We read the book Dragons Love Tacos and made cookies tacos. Those are sugar cookies, ground beef = oreos, lettuce = green sprinkles, cheese = bits of yellow twizzlers, tomatoes = red sixlets, sour cream = vanilla frosting. This may be one of my favorites yet.
We finished off the week with a Kids Night Out. The girls had friends join them. We had pizza, played games, watched movies and made cupcakes.

wizard of oz and mary poppins

The girls participated in Wizard of Camp this week. Monday : they auditioned for parts, Tuesday : they made their costumes, Wednesday : they created the sets, Thursday : they rehearsed, Friday : they performed the play for us. They had a great time. Annabelle truly loved this camp.  They were both munchkins and absolutely adorable.

We joined Eleanor, Clara, and Ethan for a backyard picnic and some play in the sprinkler.

backyard picnics are always better with silly faces

Annabelle and I were in much need of some 1 on 1 time. I told her she could pick anything she wanted to do and she wanted to go to the mall. Oye! So, that’s what we did. We walked around Claires and Justice and she picked out some very sassy glasses.

She requested dinner at the food court, which she quickly declared was terrible and I couldn’t have agreed more. Next time we’ll dine a little better, but I really couldn’t have asked for a better time with this girl.

We hosted a Jr Chef’s class at the kitchen. 3 days of cooking instruction for kids ages 8 and up. We had an awesome turnout and B did an amazing job. I do believe these kids can now cook much, much better than me.

The girls got their very own library cards and started their summer reading challenges.

Although in Spanish, I found his magazine rather funny…..as it was right next to the kids summer reading sign up. Oh Colorado, how I love you.

We celebrate national donut day with….well, donuts naturally!

The girls performed the Wizard of Oz with friends. They were insanely cute. They did a great job with their lines, songs and dance moves. Annabelle is hooked and only wants to do theater camps the rest of the summer.

I hosted a super cute fish themed birthday party at the Kitchen.

Saturday night we joined Gwyneth’s girl scout troop for an end of year celebration at Mid Air Adventures.

Sunday, B actually had a catering gig (we try not to work Sundays, but it happens) so the girls and I went to see Mary Poppins. We loved the show. There were two kids in the play and after camp this week Annabelle is certain she wants to try out for a play now too.

what show would be complete without a shirley temple

Look who we had spend the night??? It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this little lady. Hanna slept in Gwyneth’s room and they stayed up a little too late talking and giggling. It was sweet to have her here. She looks so, so much like her mom.

summer vacation

Yahoo for summer vacation!!
I love having my little ladies home for the summer. We have a lot of work, but also a lot of fun stuff planned. I have a feeling it’s just going to fly right on by, but I’m going to make the very most of it.
We kicked off the first day of vacation with a Chopped Champions party. The kids each got a basket of ingredients and this is what they came up with:
Team 1: Pasta Nachos
Team 2:  Pasta with homemade marinara sauce and garlic bread
The girls spent the morning at th epool with friends and then a glorious afternoon with me grocery shopping and at the Costco snack bar. I’m setting the bar really low this summer, you can thank me later.
Practicing our snack for cooks and books
We hosted our first summer cooks and books with The Cat In the Hat. Our snack was chocolate cookies with sliced bananas and strawberries.

Off for an afternoon of trampolines.

Saturday we hosted Kids Night Out and the girls were joined by friends. We ate pizza, made cupcakes, and watched movies.

Sunday we properly kicked off summer with the Tylers and the Donaldsons. We met at Illegal Petes and enjoyed their patio. We ate lunch, had drinks and the kids played boccie ball and cards. It was a fabulous, wonderful, can’t wait to do it again, start to our summer!

last day of 1st and 2nd grade

The last day of 1st and 2nd grade! I’ve been so ready for summer vacation for about a month….and now that is here I can hardly believe it. These girls have grown and learned so much this year. I’m so proud of them and can’t wait to have a summer of fun with them!

Lunch with Gwyneth and Ella.
These gals are so sweet together. Gwyneth may bring out the crazier side of Ella because they are super silly.

Annabelle is a big 2nd grader and far too cool for me to hang out and have lunch with her. I did swing by to say hi and enjoy some popsicles.

After school, we gathered with lots of friends at the park for an ice cream social. We provided the ice cream and everyone else provided toppings. It was bitter-sweet. Sad to say good-bye to the school year, but happiness to kick off the summer. I’m so glad we had such a great turn out and so many friends there to celebrate! My girls were thrilled and had a blast with their friends.

welcome home

We arrived home from Chicago with just enough time to squeeze in a trip to the pool. The girls had the pool all to themselves and spent the majority of their time going down the slides. We have a pretty amazing neighborhood pool and I hope we take advantage of that more this summer.
I had work to do to get caught up from our trip, so the girls got to work too. They crack me up.
We also built our summer bucket list which involves lots of camps and shows. Stay tuned!
