little mermaid

Sunday was a day of relaxation at the Meyer casa. We needed some time to get cleaned up from the baby shower and get back in our groove from the camp out. The girls played with puzzles and took very good naps – Annabelle was out for 3 hours, Gwyneth was out for 3 1/2!  We spent the evening downstairs watching Little Mermaid and eating popcorn. It was a wonderfully quiet end to a fun-filled weekend.

camp out

I have been given my share of grief for not being a camper. I went one time in college, which doesn’t even really count as camping since it involved sleeping in the back of a pickup truck, yet I vowed it would be my first and last time. Let me explain – I have an irrational fear of being attacked by a deranged ax murderer in my sleep (one too many horror movies) and I find myself to be far too civilized to use the restroom outdoors. I’m an indoor kinda girl, I suppose.
B loves camping and really wants to take the girls. Of course, our friends completely agree with him in the “camping is phenomenal” mindset. They all conspired against me and planned a camp out in the Tyler’s backyard. I have to concede this was the perfect camping experience because I was 99.9% I would not be attacked in my sleep (the 0.1% uncertainty is because of the Tyler’s lunatic neighbor) and we had all the luxuries of indoor plumbing. What more can a girl ask for???
Rob and Cade joined us for the adventure and Rob brought along his massive outdoor movie screen. It was huge and I’ve never seen these kiddos sit so still. Very cool! The girls stayed up way too late, but had a blast. Such a fun time.

The giant screen. How cool is that????
Unfortunately it started to drizzle and we had to take the movie inside. The kids are not impressed, as you can tell……
After the rain let up, B, the girls and I managed to survive the night in our 4 man tent. We each had our own sleeping bag – the girls loved that. The girls even slept in! I have to admit it was really nice waking up in that little tent with my family. We’ll see if they’ve sold me on camping in the great outdoors though. Stay tuned…..

baby shower for melissa

Sheila and I hosted a baby shower for our friend, Melissa. She is expecting a little girl the first week of August. Melissa said she really liked the lady bug theme, so you know she came to the right place. The shower was at my house which is the most central since some of the girls were south while most live up North in Brighton. Sheila and I make a fabulous team for parties – she took care of the main menu while I did dessert, decorations, and game. The food was delicous and there were ladybugs as far as the eye could see. We had about 15 gals over, everyone seemed to have a great time, and Melissa got lots of new cute stuff for the baby.

The original plan was for B to take the girls to the Science and Nature museum and then out for lunch. Miss Annabelle overheard us plannnig and she said “I want to go to a baby shower with you”. She was really sweet and really wanted to stay for the party so we decided to split up the day. Annabelle stayed with me and Gwyneth went with B.  Annabelle was such a big helper and very kind and sweet to our guests. She had lunch with Ms. Sheila, kept a close eye on Ms. Melissa’s baby gifts, and helped herself to a cupcake and some candy.  I’m so glad I had this special time with her – she’s such a little blessing. As for B and GG, they didn’t fair quite as well….B ended up getting a flat tire so they dined at McDonalds and spent the afternoon at Firestone. From the sound of it, GG didn’t really mind though. She was happy to have her daddy-time.
The baby received an American Girl doll which Melissa had never heard of….what??? Annabelle was floored! She had to go in for a closer look. She was very good about keeping her hands to herself, but I could tell behind that sweet smile and those calm eyes there was a burning desire to GET THAT BABY DOLL! Excellent self control, Annabelle, excellent.
Ahhh, she got her mother’s organization needs – she lined up all the gifts and handed them one by one to Melissa to be opened.
Finally she can take a load off and enjoy her cupcake. What a good helper!
We had such a wonderful Mommy and Annabelle morning. It seems like just the other day I was attending my own baby shower for her.
It’s not a party without my little Gwyneth! She came home, gave me hugs and headed straight for the candy.
Congratulations to Melissa, Rob, and Cade. We can’t wait to meet your new little one in just 2 short months.

I got super crafty with this little shower. You can see more of my ladybug shower decorations here and my sibling tshirts here and ladybug onesies here. (My crafts website is a work in progress – I have lots more to add over there. Stay tuned.)

game night

We attended a fundraiser this evening at the girls’ daycare. The funds are being used to put in a new playground. Several local restaurants pitched in for the meal including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, potato salad, cupcakes and drinks. We had a great time watching the girls eat, play and run a mock with their daycare buddies. It’s been really nice to watch all these little ones grow up together. Most of the kids in Annabelle’s class have been together since they were just a few weeks old and now they’re closing in on the big THREE!
After dinner, B put the girls to bed and I headed off to my Bunco/Game night. We try and gather for Bunco once a month, but it’s somtimes difficult to get 12 gals together with jobs, kids, families, travel, etc. When we have 12 we play Bunco, when we don’t we play a board game. This month we had a really fun crowd and played Apples to Apples. I spent the entire night laughing. I’m a bit competitive and everyone knows it so I was dishing it out and they were throwing it right back. I am not pleased to say that I lost both games, but I had a great time!

children’s museum revisited

As I was making plans I didn’t notice I had the girls scheduled for back to back playdates at the Children’s Museum. Oops. They love it there so I didn’t think it would be a big deal. Unfortunately Tuesday night was a free night at the museum and it was packed! It was rather obnoxious really. People sure do love anything for free! This wasn’t a great deal for us anyway since we’re members so we decided to make a quick round and then get the heck out of there. The girls had dinner with their cousins, Ryan and Reagan, and then we played on the playground. They had a blast on the tire swing!

We took a quick ride on the trolley and called it a night. The girls are fans of the museum, but we will NOT be going back again on a free night. That place is nuts!

I forgot my camera (what????) but Jen snapped a few with her phone….

father’s day portraits

My goal was to surprise B with pictures of the girls for Father’s day. That plan was nixed when the portrait studio called to confirm and B answered! Oh well, surprises are over-rated, right? Yeah, I don’t think so either, but it was nice for B to come along with me and help out. The girls were so excited about getting their picture taken and were all smiles. They are such hams! They did great job and we got some great shots. The photographer agreed and asked us to sign over the rights to use them in promotional materials and on display in the studio. If you’re up in our neck of the woods at Sears take a look at the portrait studio – you’ll see a big ol’ shot of the Meyer girls!

I’m not usually a fan of barefoot pictures – not a big fan of feet. In this case, Miss Gwyneth gave us two options…either barefoot or her bright pink crocs. We decided to go with barefoot.

The girls did such a great job! I love, love, love, how the pictures turned out.

rockies vs dodgers

We took the girls for their first Rockies game this season and they loved it!! We sat in the Pavilions and they had a great time munching on lots of goodies and watching the game. Before the game started they had a home run derby type event and balls were flying right towards us. Annabelle told me  “Don’t let those balls hit me in the head”. Yes, maam, that was my plan! Honestly it was a bit stressful sitting there but once the game got underway it was smooth sailing. It was a long game….well, the 1st inning was really long…so we had to head home before the game ended. The Rockies did pull off the win though. We can’t wait to take the girls back for more games this season.

We had great seats – no one sat in front of us so the girls could stand during the game. The only drawback was this fence was about eye height for them when they were in their seats. They stood most of the game anyway so it didn’t really matter.
Let’s go Rockies!
Heading home after a fun fun family night. Notice them copying how I’m holding my arms  – silly girls…..

happy birthday, lance

Lance’s birthday party was held a park just a quick walk from our house. It was great – we loaded the girls up in the wagon and walked on over. No car necessary. Annabelle and Lance have been buddies since they started daycare together – almost 3 years ago. Several of the kiddos were there to help Lance celebrate and it was so great to see all the kids together. It really is a great group of little ones and they play so well together.

Gwyneth received an invite also to come along and play with Alex, Lance’s younger sister. They are just 4 months apart and play at school together too. We’re lucky Lance and Alex live so close – I have a feeling we’ll be seeing them at the park quite often this summer.

teenagers

Tonight was Annabelle’s last night of “Mommy and Me” gymnastics. She has really enjoyed this class, but she’s ready to join the big kids. B took her for her last class and was not so thrilled about it. He loves spending time with the girls, but I think gymnastics and dancing school are going to by my thing with them. Miss Annabelle gets a week off and then starts the advanced class in June. I can’t wait to see what this girl can do!

Gwyneth and I went to “Todder Night” at their daycare. There are some big changes comin’ at the school which include new teachers and new class formats (Montessori starting at 1 years old). I was glad I could spend that time with Gwyneth and see her interact with her friends. She is a social butterfly! Her and her buddies all said “Hello” and laughed and danced together and the teachers just ate her up.

We’d already had dinner so I decided to take Gwyneth out for a little treat of ice cream. We stopped by Sonic and shared a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the patio. Several older couples joined us and ooohed and ahhhed over Miss G, which she gladly milked! She threw on the charm and was all smiles. But….who knew that we had arrived at the dreaded high school hangout?!?! Oh my, my, my….what a bunch of punks! They were all smoking, all swearing (too many f-bombs dropped for my sweet little girls ears!), all of them obnoxious!! The girls had far too much make-up on and not enough clothes (hide some skin girls, jeez!) and the boys all have that really bad Zack Efron-70’s comeback-shaggy-just a quick snip away from a mullet-haircut. I was and am still mortified of the thought of my girls one day becoming teenagers — especially those teenagers. All I could do tonight was squeeze my little girl tight, give her lots of kisses, tell her how fabulous she is and hope, hope, hope that the next 11 years go by a LOT slower than these past two!

sanctuary

Each year our friend, Keith gets an invitation for a round of golf at the Sanctuary, a beautiful private golf course. B and I were lucky enough to be invited for the second year in a row to join Keith and Jennifer for an amazing day. The guys golf and Jennifer and I cruise around in a cart, drink a few beers and enjoy the peace, quiet, and gorgeous views. Jennifer and I chat non-stop, which is nearly impossible these days when we have the kiddos with us. It’s a great opportunity to catch up and for all of us to spend a day together without getting babysitters. Lots of fun!

Thanks again Carlson’s for inviting us along on a very fun day!
