mermaid show

I don’t ever expect things to be fair between my kids, but since I had such a lovely one on one day with Annabelle this week I really wanted to try and do the same for Gwyneth. She requested lunch with the mermaids, so after lots of embroidery deliveries for work, we headed to lunch for the mermaid show. She was thrilled. She was so sweet and in awe of the mermaids.

She is also an amazing eater and I should know never to order off the kids menu for her. She devoured a bowl of clam chowder and a plate of grilled fish – no chicken nuggets and corn dogs for this girl. I asked her if she wanted to be a chef someday like her daddy and she said “no. I don’t want to cook it. I want to eat it!”. That a girl! Perhaps food critic instead? She has quite the little palette for a four year old! (This could be trouble in those poor college years….)

she certainly knows how to pose:

special helper

Annabelle was special helper at school today, which means she gets to assist the teacher all day and be line leader. The line leader is really the big deal. There is something about being special helper that just allows their inner bossiness to shine!

We’ve been really busy lately. Extra busy. B volunteered to help cater a dinner for Autism on Saturday so he’s been staying after school to help prep. We’re very proud of him and we’re so glad he’s supporting such an important cause. BUT, we are selfish sometimes and we miss him around here.

Today was early release day from school for Annabelle so I scooped her up and was ready to go pick up Gwyneth from preschool when Annabelle requested some “special mommy” time. She looked sad and said she just wanted some time together. Oh crap! Bring on the mommy guilt. I know I’ve been stretched thin, but when the child has a little tear in her eye and says she needs some one on one time you know you gotta slow down.

Miss Annabelle and I went to paint pottery together and she was so sweet. She was all pleases and thank yous and no sass and I was so glad to have this time with her. She even requested I paint with her, which I never do, so she painted a cat jewelry box and I painted a ring holder. The ring holder will go nicely in our kitchen and maybe I’ll lose my jewelry 10 times a day instead of 12. Perfection!

such a great time with my kindergartener

she did such a cute job with the eyes, nose, and ears. Love it!

teaching me how to do crazy eyes. it’s a gift really.

this girl is obsessed with cats. thank goodness I’m allergic or we’d probably have a house full of them.

My proud little lady took her Nuggets basketball as show and tell the next day. This was a huge hit, because normally the boys don’t really care about what the girls bring in (dolls, trinkets, etc), but a Rocky basketball is a crowd pleaser. She was super proud of that!

break over

GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

I didn’t necessarily kick the girls out of the house this morning, but I may have been a bit forceful getting them up and out. Lunches were packed the night before, clothes laid out, backpacks loaded and ready to go. Maybe they didn’t think 9 days of break was enough, but someone in this house did!

Not quite sure what is up with the guitar? Perhaps she’s singing the blues about going back to school? It’s hard to take her misery seriously with that big smile and pink princess guitar:

Oh boy, good luck to Ms. Sarah, Gwyneth’s teacher. Imagine this walking in your class after a peaceful 9 day break. Perhaps I should Ms Sarah a very nice gift? Yes, yes I should.

meyer easter

We celebrated with dinner and another egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa Meyer’s house. We were able to swing by and visit Brandon who is home from the hospital after open heart surgery (what???? yes, our dear friend caught a bacteria and had to have heart surgery! It’s been a crazy three weeks!) We got to visit with him and his family for a bit before heading over to the Meyer’s.

The girls had a blast with their cousins and Jocelyn even set up the Easter egg hunt for the little girls. She made sure everything was even-Steven. The Merrill’s stopped over and it was great to see all the kids together. Seth is quite use to the Meyer’s, but I think it was rather an eye opening experience for Katie!

It was a long, busy day and everyone was exhausted when it was finally time to head home. Did I mention the girls go back to school tomorrow after 9 days off…. It’s been a busy, busy, busy 9 days!

Happy Easter!

easter morn

The Easter Bunny found us at the hotel. Thank goodness! The girls can thank their Daddy for texting him the night before to let him know we wouldn’t be home. Gwyneth was all about going through the goodies in her basket while Annabelle searched for eggs. The room was covered with eggs and Annabelle snatched up about 75% of them.

Kaylee and the girls made a sign for the Easter Bunny so he’d know just where to stop!

The girls got all fancied up in their Easter dresses which Gwyneth picked out almost 4 months ago. It’s been hanging in her closet just taunting her. She’s been so patient about wearing it and now the big day finally has arrived.

main street

Just a fun day on Main Street in Breckenridge. The playground was covered in snow. It appears they shoveled all the paths and piled it on top of the playground. That didn’t stop our kiddos. They loved it!

She braced herself, but still got a face full of snow. Mr. Rhys is a good shot! Is it terrible that I love this picture?

sweet girl

sledding

The week was a bit weird for us since dancing school was not cancelled. Annabelle had dance Monday night and Gwyneth has dance Friday morning while B has school all week. What to do?

We invited Sheila and the boys up to Breckenridge with us for a little getaway. We only had a few days, but it was fabulous! We arrived Tuesday afternoon and sledded for hours right outside the condo. The kids laughed and burned off lots of energy. Miss Sheila made us a delicious dinner of turkey and sweet potato meatloaf and we ended the day snuggled up in pj’s, watching a movie, and enjoying the snow fall. Man, you gotta love Colorado!

one of my favorite from the trip:

building an igloo:

croods

We kicked off Spring Break with root beer floats and a movie. The girls love going to the movies — just like their momma. We had slushies and popcorn and met with at least six other families to kick off Spring Break properly.

I had no desire to see this movie but it turned out to be very cute. There seems to be a trend lately in strong young girls in films and their relationship with family. I like it.

world thinking

Annabelle’s Daisy troop participated in World Thinking Day. They built a booth for Spain and served tapas and dressed like Spanish dancers. Each of the other troops in the area had a booth at the rec center also and the girls got to travel around the world.
Cuba served mango yogurt
South Africa served an exotic fruit juice
Hola Spain!
France served a soft cheese which all the girls agreed was “gross and stinky”.
Freakin’ love Mexico! This girl rocked the stash and they had little mini tacos.
Egypt had water…um, ok?
Italy shared spaghetti noodles. And check out the picture of the heels. This girl spoke endlessly about how Italy has the best high heels and clothes. She had Annabelle at high heels…
Getting some fortune cookies from China
Sticky rice from Japan
This was Germany. They were the last booth and real quite downers. They start with “History yea!” but then fixated on children stolen from their families by the Nazi’s. Sweet dreams little Daisy’s….
