caffeine

Our girls have had a rough week. It’s been stressful at our house. We’re still trying to figure out schedules — work and school. And we’re a bit of a mess. I gotta be honest, Miss Gwyneth was a mess today. She had a bad day at school, tears at home and she was banished to her room.

Annabelle and I had to run to the grocery store and I was flustered. I hate when my girls are being naughty and Gwyneth has had a bad run. So, I took a break and sat down with Miss Annabelle and had a pumpkin latte. She ordered herself a hot chocolate and a little snack and we chatted about life in 1st grade. Oh my, it was such a pleasant moment of peace of quiet.  I was calm for our shopping run and happy to see Gwyneth had some good daddy time while we were gone. It’s going to be a tough road until B graduates from school but we’re getting by one coffee break at a time.

great peacock lie

I love peacocks. It started with a love for the movie The Other Guys and the Marky Mark peacock line.  Friends started giving me peacock gifts – compacts, cards, candles, etc. Gwyneth doesn’t understand the reference but she knows I like peacocks and loves them now too.
We found this costume at Gymboree and both went a bit looney. Gwyneth is going to be a little fairy peacock for Halloween. I ordered all the pieces online and now we sit back and wait for it to arrive. Gwyneth asked to check the mail about 47 times today to see if it arrived.

I received a call about 9:30 this morning from the school nurse saying that Gwyneth was in the clinic and had thrown up. I quickly went over to pick her up. I gave her big hugs and asked if she was feeling ok and she just buried her head in my side.
We got  in the car and I kept asking if she was ok and if everyone had treated her kindly and she was very, very quiet. Finally she said “can we go home and check the mail?”. Wait, What????
After a very long conversation and a lot of tears she finally fessed up. She didn’t throw up at school. She had fibbed. She just wanted to get home and check the mail for her costume.
This girl is in big, big trouble. She lost her play date privileges for the week and she won’t be able to wear the costume until trick or treating next month. She would have worn it every day for the next two months so I can assure you this is a big punishment. (I probably should send the costume back, but let’s be honest – I still really LOVE peacocks.)
What a naughty but clever girl.

Feeling a bit down on my parenting skills Annabelle came home with this fabulous pick from the library. I asked why she checked this out and she said “I don’t think I’m a bully, but I should make sure!”. Great, just great.

I did all the disciplining today because B had to work late….and let’s be honest, when I told him he couldn’t stop laughing so he wouldn’t have been much help. It was not happiness around our house today. Whenever I feel like a crappy mom or think we had a bad day, I like to peak in on them when they are asleep and see how sweet they still are (and they can’t talk back to me!). They are good girls and Gwyneth will make a very cute peacock next month…

dance party

Another day with the cousin crew. After breakfast we went to Jump City and then the girls had a dance party. Nothing better than dress up and dancing. These girls have some fabulous moves.

I love this girls hair. Quite the bouffant.

The girls stayed up very late and were quite worn out.  We wanted to let them run around and play, but in reality a few of these gals could have just laid on the couch all day and rested.

Gabriela loved the trampolines. She was a bouncing fool.

Um, Annabelle may not have loved being thrown in the foam pit and might need a bit more sleep tonight.
Miserable Maeava. Annabelle and Maeva may be just a bit sleep deprived.
Gwyneth loved being thrown in the pit. Good times!
Look at this wacky hair!

Back at the house the girls played dress up and put on a dance performance. There are lots of little dresses but Gabriela wanted a long fancy one. She is not short on dramatics.

Happy dancers

they’re here

It was a horribly long wait for my girls, but their cousins finally arrived! We had dinner at the house and it took 30.5 seconds for them to completely demolish the basement. It is truly amazing how many buckets of toys can be dumped, baby dolls and barbies can be scattered, and dress up clothes can be worn. There were multiple wardrobe changes and very happy girls.

I really like having my sister and her family here. I appreciate having the time to catch up with Stacy and although the cousins may bicker they adore each other. I do wish we lived closer, but I value the time we get to spend together.

Gabriela is here! She has really come in to her own and has a larger than life personality. You can’t always understand what she is saying but she says it with attitude! When asked how old she is, she responds “THREE!”. (She just turned two a month ago).

To say that Eliana ADORES Gwyneth would be a major understatement.
The bosses

penrose

The Tyler’s invited us for a weekend in Penrose and it was fabulous. Lance’s parents are so hospitable and it’s a little bit of heaven by an apple orchard. Unfortunately this year there were no apples but we had a blast anyway. Third Street Orchards is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places in Colorado.

Time to feed the chickens
stroll through the Orchards with Sawyer

Bailing hay

Ice cream break
Gwyneth really wanted to bring snowy, the dog, home.
Visiting the Alpacas
B and Annabelle kept their distance from the Alpacas….those animals spit!
Time for a bonfire. Perfect ending to a busy, busy day

Smores!

Such a great weekend with great friends. Thanks to all the Tyler’s for being so kind and hospitable.

homework

We are getting slammed with homework these days. It’s nice for us to get in a routine and focus on their school work. Tyson’s parent’s had a conflict after school so Tyson came home with us and the 1st graders got right down to business doing their home work. Well, maybe not right down to business….I suppose there was a little game of “Chase Tyson”, “Watch Tyson jump” and then a rematch of “Chase Tyson”. Then it was down to business.

The 1st graders had to cut out numbers from magazines and of course Gwyneth wanted in on the fun. She does her reading and Annabelle’s home work every night. We got lucky with this assignment because we had a Colorado Rockies magazine laying around. Between the player’s #’s, the scores, stats, and the scheduling they struck the mother-load of numbers!

truckin’

Annabelle’s buddy, Tyson came over after school for a playdate. For being such a girlie girl they sure do get along very well. Tyson is a wild man, but is very kind and sweet with both our girls. He keeps them laughing at all times! (Honestly, he cracks B and up a lot too!). They spent the entire time cruisin’ in the Monster Truck. Tyson even made sure Gwyneth got a turn so she didn’t feel left out. Quite the gentleman!

booger twins

On Saturday Tom, Amy, Bella and Brayden (affectionately referred to as the Booger Twins by their parents) joined us up the hill. We had lunch at Eric’s Downstairs. I tell ya, we can’t get enough of their pizza and baked wings. Good thing we don’t live in Breckenridge or we’d probably be there every day.

We explored main street and threw rocks in the river. It doesn’t take much to make us happy. We headed back to the condo and relaxed while the kids wore themselves out playing outside. I do believe their favorite part was soaking in the hot tub. Good times with good friends all around!

We had a wonderful weekend and are refreshed and ready for the week ahead.

dance studio

Gwyneth likes kindergarten so much, she decided to do it again. Still excited, still smiling.

Annabelle’s buddy, Tyson made her a dance studio for her dolls. How flippin’ cute is this??? He decorated and made it all by himself and even in put a bar for them to practice ballet or hang their costumes. His mom nearly threw it away when she was picking up his room and he flipped and explained he had been working on it for Annabelle. It’s creative, kind, and absolutely amazing. I’m overwhelmed with the hearts of these 1st graders. How lucky is Annabelle? Quite lucky indeed!

Annabelle started her first classes for the fall dance session. It is a super long night for her. She goes from 4 – 6:45 and takes ballet, tap and hip hop. I was really worried that it would be too much, but of course she loves it. She has several friends in her class and was full of energy the entire time.

I asked to take her pictures for the 1st day of dance classes, so of course she posed…with a dog…and some flowers… The girls likes to get her pictures taken, what more can I say.

Here’s the newest addition to our kitchen:

The girls prefer to buy lunch at school rather than taking their lunch. I have the school menu printed out each week so they can see what’s for lunch that day (they still ask 50 times in the morning, but at least the answer is readily available.).
