My Grandmother passed away today. She has been battling illness for the past 10 years and is in a much better place now.
My Grandparents didn’t have much while my dad was growing up but they were amazingly devoted to one another. They have a truly remarkable love story. I remember from my childhood them always being together, them driving their RV around the country, eating Dairy Queen banana splits out of big plastic bowls at their kitchen table, and being terrified of their cat! My Grandma had the most beautiful long brown hair. She always wore these pretty delicate barrettes to hold it back. I was completely enamored with her hair and swore when I was a grown up I would have long hair (got it) and beautiful barrettes (don’t have ’em).
We went out to dinner with them every Friday night and from the stories it sounds like I was a little monster. It’s hard to believe that’s true — I think my parents are making that part up.
My Grandparents had an admiral work ethic and intelligence that they clearly passed on to their two sons. My Uncle Jerry is an orthodontist and goes to Haiti each year to help the underprivileged. He has seven kids and seven grandkids. My dad, well you all know my dad and let’s just say he has done all right. (understatement of the year, but I know he wouldn’t want me bragging about him on here). He has three daughters and seven granddaughters. It’s pretty safe to say my grandparents had a lot to be proud of.
I always thought I looked like my mom, but my dad thinks I look like my Grandma Paz. No question who my dad resembles.
